Ok, I was asking about Lendl in the "Andy in Rome" thread, I now have my answer.

Have read the translation of the interview. Sorry but "Stay in the Summit only if you win matches, so the goal is to lose as little as possible ... " doesn't sound like a very optimistic, motivated or confident statement.
Andy said that "you have to set goals very high" or sort of. So the goal shouldn't be "to win as much as possible" ?

Humility is a very good thing. But I think that Andy, sometimes, doesn't sound as a world number one.
I think the machine translation gives Andy's answer a misleading tone. In my translation it would read: "You stay at the top only if you win matches, so the object is to lose as few as possible. It will be a fight, and I like fighting, as you can tell from last year after Wimbledon, when in order to get to number one I put together the longest winning streak of my career."

I think the line about "so the object is to lose as few as possible" is Andy's typical dry, almost sarcastic approach to these kinds of questions. He just isn't the hype-y type.

I agree Tamaragl Andy really isn't the hype type, and must get so fed up being ask question after question!!! He also isn't the type of guy walking around like look at me I'm number one .

I was wondering if it was because of the translation.
And yes I have no doubt about Andy's fighting spirit.
It's just that I felt reading this was very connected to his lack of confidence on court.

I'll wait and see what happen this week.

Happy birthday Andy from his mates.

I think if the ATP implement most of these ideas into the full tour, my love affair with tennis will most likely be over. I'm glad Andy is actually in his twilight years and won't be involved in this farcical nonsense, which is blatantly just to appeal to the TV schedulers.

I agree with the "no let" rule change.

I agree with the "no let" rule change.

So do I, but not the rest. I actually have no problem with non-slam on court coaching, but that is a weird proposal to allow coaching at allocated times but not on court.

I was thinking of going to the NextGen tournament in the autumn, but not so sure now. Hate no ad scoring - that and the MTB have ruined tour level doubles - and the first four games.

I agree atl the rest of the changes seem designed for ad breaks! Mind you I think  it's a good idea to try new things at least. Tennis seems a bit of a slow moving dinosaur at times. eg you either think it's really cute to have umpires leaping down to check the clay, or, like me, you think FFS it's the 21stC already!

Rafael Nadal backs Andy Murray to challenge for the French Open despite his recent run of poor form

World No 1 Andy Murray will be ready for Roland Garros despite his poor recent form, nine-time French Open champion Rafa Nadal has said.
Nadal has won all three clay competitions this season while Murray struggled in Madrid and Monte Carlo and lost out in the semi-finals in Barcelona.
Since the start of the year, Murray has won just one of seven tournaments but Nadal is confident the Briton will be prepared for the French Open, which starts at the end of the month.

'He's a great player, unbelievable player,' said Nadal after booking his spot in the last 16 of the Italian Open on Wednesday. 'He will be ready for Roland Garros. He has one week and a half to practice, and he will be one of the candidates (for the title).'
Former world No 1 Nadal also said that being at the top had no impact on a players' performance but tiredness could play a role.
'I don't think being No 1 affects on play ... I don't see a reason why. But at the same time, it's so difficult to be on the top of your game and mentality for every week,' Nadal said.

'He had an unbelievable year last year, winning almost all the matches ... and that's tough. Physically, mentally, it's tough to do what he did at the end of his season.'

Gotta love Rafa!

^ Indeed!  I've never ever heard him say a bad word about anyone either and always seems genuine and sincere with his comments.

Meanwhile Susan Egelstaff (a former badminton internationalist) writes some interesting thoughts of her own in The Herald about both Andy and Novak
