Andy Murray doubts daughter Sophia will follow him into tennis: 'I gave her a mini racket, she grabbed it, looked at it, and put it straight in the bin'
Andy Murray has his wife Kim and daughter Sophia with him at the French Open
World No 1 gave his 16-month-old girl racket as a gift... but she thew it in the bin
Murray will face eighth seed Kei Nishikori in the quarter-finals on Wednesday

Surely it's too early to say Sophia won't become a tennis player? At 16 months she's hardly able to lift a racquet never mind run around a court and  hit forehands.  There's plenty of time yet.

Probably Sophia didn't even know what that mini-racket was let alone what she was supposed to do with it.  I'm sure Andy was only joking anyway, but typical DM tries to make a story out of it.

One of your better ones Robbie.  yes

lots of stories in press today about Andy saying he wouldn't become a tax exile like about half the other top players.  More important to him to be near family and friends and in his own home and as I've always thought he's not one looking to dodge his taxes.  Makes me love him even more, if that's possible.   As Richard Murphy, a tax expert, commented, he's a great role model (unlike many other top British athletes who take their wealth abroad).

He's the real deal.   So proud of him.

I saw them too and read what he'd said.  It doesn't surprise me one little bit that he's not interested in joining the British Athletes' Tax Exile Club.  He's too honest and too much of a homebody to do that, bless him. wub

I also like the fact that he and Kim had clearly taken their citizenship duties very seriously - watching as many debates as they could and then using their postal votes (brought out to them and taken to the polling station for them), which suggests they thought carefully about how to vote.

Andy wants to go on playing until he's in his mid-30s, but "I don't know how many more opportunities I'll get to compete for the Grand Slams so I want to make the most of it. That's why, after the French Open, I didn't take a long break."

He also recognises that he'll probably lose his #1 ranking at some point after such a poor start to the year and with so many ranking points to defend from now until the end of the season.

But if he is not convincing at being n1 I prefer him to be convincing at winning slams and masters

He has to be otherwise his ranking will slide down very quickly, and I can't see him being happy about that.  It won't do anything for his motivation either.

I'm rather surprised to see Andy supporting this in principle because I'd have thought he'd be about the last person to want to see the sport changed.

^  I'm also surprised that Andy is supporting these changes, I think the rules should stay as they are, after all why change a good thing which has always worked well.
