I’d stay at the nearest TravelLodge /Premier Inn and just go for afternoon tea.  A friend loved it and said everyone was really friendly,

My cousin, who isn't short of a £ or two, stayed there for a weekend (just two nights) in May and said the place and the food were amazing.  Also said staff were friendly and  that nothing was too much trouble for them.
