I applaud him for such a bold move. It must have been a difficult conversation to have. It does, however, indicate real confidence in Mauresmo. That, or he has completely lost his way. I prefer not to think about that option.
There's not really any reason at this stage to assume that Mauresmo had any say in this. We don't know if this was Andy's or Dani's decision or a mutual decision which they had been building towards for some time. We don't know if the decision was made under duress or if it was made freely with no outside influences. We also don't know if this was a sad or happy outcome for them. Perhaps they both really needed this. Their friendship would certainly appear to be intact.
I think changing things up over the years is not only recommended but vital in order to keep things fresh and moving along. Perhaps from Dani's and Jez's points of view too much had happened this year, leading to unrest. Conversely, perhaps from Andy's point of view not enough was happening, leading to impatience.
We will never know, unless Andy writes another book.
