I don't believe Court will get too much serious support. The young people who play pro tennis don't think in this way any more. Even in the US, which god knows has more than its share of neanderthals, nowadays young people are overwhelmingly in favour of same-sex marriage etc. Which is why it's now the law of the land.

Which sounds to me like a good reason to rename the arena given that, if the polls are to be believed, three-quarters of the people are in favour of it, with the younger generation not surprisingly being the most in favour.

Also Court has now dug herself into an even deeper hole with these comments, which have just been reported in the British media - with Tennis Australia distancing itself from the row by insisting that Court’s controversial opinions are a personal matter.  Maybe, but I doubt they'll feel happy about top players boycotting next year's AO.

blimey Aileen she gets worse.  But as I said above it's hardly a 'personal matter' now that Court herself has made it a public matter and is clearly trying to influence public debate on the issue.

I think it might have been a 'personal matter' initially, but she's certainly doing a good job of turning it into a public one now.  I don't know why she's gone to such great lengths to influence public debate though when a referendum on the issue hasn't even been allowed yet, and nor do I know the reasons why the Senate stopped the government from holding one in the first place.

At the risk of this thread becoming the 'Hateful Things Margaret Court Said' thread...

That Independent article missed out her crowning moment from today's radio show - that transgender children are 'all the devil'.

At which point the ITF should be banning her from all ITF sanctioned events. Nevermind renaming the bloody arena, she's no better than Ilie Nastase and should be treated exactly the same way. Only she won't be, because these things were not said at an ITF sanctione event, so they'll play it down as being a personal matter unrelated to tennis.

Thing is though, the only reason Court is getting airtime and being noticed when she says or writes this stuff is precisely because of her achievements in tennis. If she'd done nothing in tennis, just become a Pentecostal minister, nobody would pay her any attention, she'd just be another run of the mill 'deplorable'.

That really is a very despicable thing to say.  Maybe if she continues in this vein for very much longer then the ITF will sanction her, because I don't recall Nasty coming out with stuff like that.

There are plenty of articles online but I've no intention of posting links to any of them, because I don't want this to turn into Margaret Court hate thread either.  I admired her as a player and everything she achieved, so would prefer to leave it at that while acknowledging her as the bigoted person she's become.  Of course the matter won't go away, and will inevitably get worse when next year's AO begins to loom on the horizon.

Aileen well done batting down that weird rant under the article.  I can't think what on earth he's talking about - particularly (in relation to tax) as Andy is almost the only top player who hasn't displayed his patriotism by moving to a tax haven such as Monaco (or Switzerland in the case of most of the French players)   shocking

I know this isn't "Andy news" so, to speak, but with Andy having made his views on Margaret Court very clear recently, I think if he saw this he'd thoroughly enjoy John's take on it  w00t And I have posted this on the Tennis videos thread, but I thought I'd post it here too, because I think it deserves to be seen by as many people as it can reach  lmao John at his hilarious, irreverent best.
