Few things to note.

Kevin Mitchell, of the Guardian, says on his Twitter account that Andy spent around an hour on a press conference call today; that Andy sounds upbeat; and Andy says that the story Barry Flatman* published in the Sunday Times based on Pat Cash’s claim that Andy told him he had issues in both hips is not true.

Hmm, five months until a competitive comeback at Queen's then - is this a realistic recovery time? Think

A few days ago I felt rather downbeat with all the news around Andy and his post. And along comes Andy surprising everybody with the fact that he has had surgery and everything went well. Very encouraging and somethingto look forward to.

Wow the quickness of this announcement surprised me. I thought we would have that information after AO.
To me it is the absolute right decision, the only one that have a chance for an happy outcome.

What suprised me also is the fact that he knows Dr O'Donnell since 2008. I wasn't aware his hip started to bother him so long ago.
Buit it's also a good thing that, beside being one of the best in the world, the Dr who performed the surgery is the one who followed the case since the beginning.

From now on it's rest then rehab and training for Andy. For us I guess it's about patience.
I feel confident we can now look optimistically at the futur. He will come back.

I agree Nikke, it is something to look forward too.Andy, s return. He knows what to do after his back operation. I wonder when he will return home .It is amazing about the Dr in Melbourne but it is good for Andy thathe had the history. That must be good news.I am sure this is all positive news.I wonder if his team are still in Melbourne it would not surprise me if they were.

Just been announced that Andy had surgery on his right hip in Melbourne and is now targeting a return to the court for Wimbledon. The surgery was done by a surgeon in Melbourne he’s been consulting regarding his hips since his very early twenties.

Apparently the delayed December departure was because he had a minor surgery to his groin on 18th December.

lol  What a surprise!

Andy never set a definite timetable, just that he hoped he would make the grass-court season, adding that he wasn't going to rush things - and all being well, assuming the condition is femoro-acetabular impingement, then a comeback by that time isn't beyond the realms of possibility - http://hipjointsurgery.co.uk/hips/hip-impingement/

@Bevc - Ta for the pic!   Nice but not surprising to see Jamie D there, and looking very happy, because he'll definitely need somebody with him when he flies home, which I'd think would be as soon as possible.  It wouldn't surprise me if Matt and his physio are with him too because they'll need to get instructions from the surgeon about his rehab.

Boom! Wow, just caught the news on it. That's as postive news as we could hope for at this point. Fair play, Andy was one step ahead all the time!
