Sorry Aileen.  I just realized this when I went to brush my teeth.
No probs.  Won't do any harm to have something like this posted on more than one thread. Smile

Thanks Daisy. That is a very positive article.  I think Andy can gain a lot from Cahill wisdom.  The good thing about a part time coach is that Cahill can provide the optimum strategy to Andy, and he and Corretja can just get on with it, unlike Brad who was in Andy's mind constantly.  With a part time coach, Andy can select the advice that he feels is most appropriate without the pressure of performing in front of a coach. Only the result needs to speak for itself.  Cahill won't be there to shout in his face.

I posted an extract from an article about this which appeared in today's Express on the "Andy sacks Maclagan thread".  The newspaper also speculates on possible full-time coaches.  McEnroe has ruled himself out of any involvement saying he's tried coaching but it wasn't really his scene and anyway he would refuse to deal with anyone over the age of 18!

I really cannot see any reason why Cahill shouldn't give Andy occasional help, especially as adidas have a vested interest as his sponsors.

Let's hope Andy listens!  Although he surely has realised by now that he not only has to listen but has to take the advice on board and at least give it go. Think

Interesting that McEnroe complained that most of his charges did not heed his advice!  Seems Andy is not alone.

Real Madrid C.F. - Official Web Site - Andy Murray visits team camp .

The Scottish tennis player greeted the players and Mourinho on the UCLA campus

Real Madrid training camp had a special visitor on Thursday as the ATP’s fourth ranked player, Andy Murray stopped by to greet the players and Jose Mourinho.

“It is an honor to be able to meet some Real Madrid players. I was a bit nervous about seeing and talking to them. This is one of the best teams in the world and seeing them was amazing.”

“Mourinho is the best coach in the world and he will help Real Madrid accomplish all the goals they have set out. England was very upset when he left because everyone knew he was the best.”

“Sergio Ramos and Alonso had an extraordinary World Cup, but Casillas was simply spectacular. He is by far the best goalkeeper around. Meeting them was a real pleasure.”

Down 3-2 in the third set, Murray repeatedly pounded his racket. Such was the force with which he struck the wire, his knuckles seeped blood, and stained his white shirt.

It was, in the eyes of a leading psychologist, an action almost akin to self-abuse and one which has raised questions over whether the UK number one has the emotional maturity necessary to take his game to the next level.

"I think these kind of outbursts are impeding Andy's game, they are not conducive to playing well," said Amanda Owens, a former British tennis international who runs a psychology consultancy

Ken Way, a sports psychologist who runs VisionSports, which has worked with the likes of Premiership football teams, agreed. He said: "Punching a racket until his hand was bloodied is far more extreme behaviour than we have seen from Andy Murray. It has to be a distracting influence."

Dr Martin Perry, another leading sports psychologist, said: "At Murray's age, I think he will know only too well his own behaviour and psychology

Dr Victor Thompson: Why aggression and anger can lead to bottling it

When over-arousal causes spikes in aggression or anger the sportsperson also experiences a similar struggle to focus on the right factors and to perform well.

This is because their attention focuses on the problems: what they or their opponent is or is not doing.

Passion for the game is great, but the best sportspeople in the world also learn how to raise and lower their level of arousal to the level that gives them their best performance.

This brings the ability to control one's state and therefore results in even greater confidence. Now that can only be good for performance

^ Interesting articles, Philip, but I'm glad the first one mentions the fact that Andy did the same thing at Queens last year and it didn't impede his game.  Reading the second article reminded me of McEnroe who, in 2006, offered to help Andy channel his anger and aggression more positively - and "superbrat" certainly wasn't lacking experience in that department!  I think Andy might benefit from seeing a sports psychologist, although should McEnroe repeat his earlier offer, I'd be delighted if Andy accepted.

I'm glad to know that he's thinking, even if it seems a little reluctantly, about appointing a coach who can teach him how to play more aggressively.  Be interesting to know who he's has had offers from.

According to this article, John Newcombe was unhappy about Andy's choice of Maclagan as coach -

Rogers Cup: Andy Murray aiming to topple Roger Federer in Toronto  [Daily Record, 9 August]

ANDY MURRAY is gunning for Roger Federer as he chases the Swiss across the hard courts of North America and on to the US Open.  The Scot will defend his Rogers Cup title in Toronto this week, opening against either Xavier Malisse or Michael Berrer, but he has his sights trained on Federer, the man he could meet in the final.

The Swiss is now down to No.3 in the world rankings, one place ahead of Murray, and the Scot aims to overtake him soon.  Even so, Murray knows that Federer and his 16 grand slam titles is a huge obstacle in his path as he tries to win this week and then bids to claim his first major trophy at the US Open later this month.

Murray said: "I'm going to try and overtake him.  He had three or four years where his consistency was incredible but it's nearly impossible to keep that up for seven, eight years. It's very tiring and tough on the body. But I wouldn't say he is vulnerable. I think when it comes to the big tournaments he's still up there with the best guys in the world.  When it gets to the those events he'll still feel he can beat everybody.  But I want to improve my ranking and the only way to do it is to win tournaments so that's what I'll be focusing on."

That is a strange thing for Andy to say especially as he is meeting Nadal #1 seed in the SF before facing Federer in the final.  It seems to imply that he believes he can beat Nadal on hard court.
