Olympic Medal Match: Murray v Federer

Quote

Oh, so you think I was serious? Very Happy

Fed is the favourite. Murray hasn't beaten him in best of 5 set format.
There does come a time, though - and I never give up hope.  If he wins, then watch for the naked pics! Very Happy

You can.

That doesn't mean you get to have a go at people who don't think he'll win.

By the same token it doesn't mean you get to have a go at ecstatic murray fans who are celebrating his first olympic final.  Some fans are bound to get excited so let them have their time in the sun without pouring cold water on their emotions.  Much as I enjoy your and Veronica's postings,  you can both sometimes be too brutal.

When did I have a go at anyone for celebrating? Quote me.

Amazing from Andy, I was always completely confident he would beat Djokovic with it being a best of three format, and would be just as bullish about his chances versus Fed except this is now best of five sets.

However, this will be unlike Wimbledon, Andy has even more motivation, and his chances are very good.  Also he easily could have won that final if only it had all been played outside; he should have been 2-0 sets up, and needs to remember that when he comes to sunday.  Fed was pushed very hard by Delpy (who played well but wasn't exceptional by any means).

I was dismayed by the number of empty seats during Andy's match, it was much fuller versus Fed, so shame on those people who left and didn't come back to cheer on Andy for a shot at the gold.  They should be embarrassed!!  It was still pretty raucous mind you, and I have no doubt come Sunday it will be a red hot cauldron of passion in there, much better than the tame wimby final.  It will be a unique and amazing experience for Andy, the only such chance he will ever get to win a gold medal before his adoring fans.

Also really hoping he and Laura can do well in the mixed, their side of the draw has potential for them no doubt.  Doubles is not physically demanding and Andy looks in great shape, so I am not worried if he has to play twice tomorrow, he would get such a buzz from winning with Laura that would offset anything else.

Two gold medals to go for on Sunday, that is what we want!

Presumably they were referring to today?

Not that it has anything to do with the current conversation.

People can't get pissy because someone predicts a Federer win and then start going on about something that's completely unrelated.

JAMES HOW DARE YOU, THE WORLD IS GOING TO DIE IF IT'S NOT MURRAY TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

James all I'm saying is allow the fans to enjoy the fact he's through to the final.  The world isn't going to die if it's not Murray Time, but just let them enjoy the anticipation.

You just quoted Veronica, not me.

Again, no one is having a go at people for celebrating, so what on earth are you talking about? MM had a go at Veronica for saying, simply "Federer in 5". That is what this discussion about.

We didn't start this, so what is your problem?

I was referring to a different match, and took your comment to be broad-based.
Why so seriously. Very Happy

Look, I feel a bit guilty here if I have started it, yes I am an ardent Murray fan, but not one that is totally "Murrayed" I tend to try and be optimistic and not pessimistic and will support him through thick and thin but am objective enough to realise that he is in the top four but not No. 1 (yet).  However, today I was estatic at an amazing performance against possibly the soon to be re-instated No. 1 player.  This is a site to celebrate his success, finally he is coming of age and things appear to be clicking into place.  Perhaps, I was a bit over exhuberant in my postings earlier on, however, I have no problem with people posting to say they feel that Fed will win, he will be the favourite, he is No. 1 player in the world and has massive experience etc.  I don't like the guy but I  would not let that blind me to the fact that he will be installed as favourite.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that is the beauty of living in a democratic society, freedom of speech etc.  So roll on Sunday and I really hope Andy can prevail.

I really enjoy Murrays World as I thought it was somewhere that fellow Murray Fans could get together and discuss the success of Andy, however after tonight and some of the comments think I will have to be a bit more cautious in the future.

Anyway, good luck Andy, you totally deserve a crack at the Gold Medal, play like you did tonight and you will certainly be right up there.

Because people are acting as though we came into this thread and started shouting at people for celebrating.

I guess my 'why so seriously' quote flew under your radar.
From another funny forum.
You and V are funny and clever. I like the way you stir things up.
Now I have to feed my hungry man home from a hard day's work, in more ways than one.. so Cheerio now. Very Happy

I did not give anyone a hard time for saying that Fed would win, I merely commented that it was strange to see such negativity on the day that Andy made it to the Olympic final.  Sorry for any misunderstanding but will definitely be thinking twice before posting from now on!!!
