Paris R1: Andy Murray vs Gilles Simon

The two will play each other for the 19th time in their careers.  Andy leads their H2H 16-2, his two losses coming in R1 of the Rome Masters in 2007 and the quarter-finals of the Rotterdam Open in 2015.  They last met in R2 of the Vienna Open in 2016.

37 year old Simon, who is currently ranked No. 195, has recently competed mainly on the ATP Challenger Tour.  His best performance in 2022 was reaching the third round of the French Open by defeating Pablo Carreno Busta in five sets and Steve Johnson in straight sets before losing 0-6, 3-6, 2-6 to eventual semi-finalist Marin Cilic.  His most recent participation on the ATP Tour came at the Moselle Open in Metz in September where he beat David Goffin 6-3, 6-3 in the first round but lost 6-7(2-7), 4-6 to Lorenzo Musetti in the next.

Simon received a wild card into this tournament which will be the final tournament of his long career.
