The two have met three times before - Australian Open 2016, Cincinnati 2020 and Indian Wells 2021, with Zverev winning their last encounter 6-4, 7-6(7-4)

25 year old Zverev, who, as I think most of us know, spent much of last season on the sidelines due to a serious foot injury, has won only two out of six matches so far this season.  Starting at the United Cup he lost both of his singles matches against Jiri Lehecka and Taylor Fritz.  He then competed at the Australian Open where he defeated Juan Pablo Varillas 4-6, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-4 in the opening round but was then beaten 6-7(1), 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 by Michael Mmoh in the second.  Zverev suffered another second-round exit at the ABN Amro Open in Rotterdam, this time losing 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to Tallon Griekspoor.

He is though confident that he's put his injury woes behind him - “I don't have it in the back of my mind.  A few weeks ago I used to still get signals from my foot.  It's in the right direction, and I feel like I can play pretty freely now.  I felt that way in Rotterdam.  I thought I played a lot better in Rotterdam than I did the previous weeks, even though I lost in the second round.  I'm looking forward to the next few weeks, and hopefully it still gets progressively better.”

Methinks that is probably all irrelevant considering their activity since 2020.  

It could be a good match to watch if they both do not get down on themselves. That is a trait of both in the past. Will someone please warm-up Andy this round please. We do not want a slow start in this match to let Sacha get some confidence.
