Queens R1: Andy Murray vs Jordan Thompson

Yes, he could. Before I get accused of making excuses for him again!- I'm not saying that's what IS behind this. I'm saying it COULD be.  There's no way it was gone as fast as Andy said it was, shingles doesn't work like that. Shingles can take a long, long time to really, truly recover from- it can be a year in some cases, before the effects are really gone.
I know because I've had that myself and know what it can take out of you particularly if you don't get enough rest.  Fortunately I was in a position where I could so got over the worst of it reasonably quickly.  Andy on the other hand went back to playing far too soon.

Also Jordan has played a heck of a lot of matches on grass so far this year. Andy hadn't. That's always a factor.
That was my main concern when I found out Andy was playing him.

I think he'd probably have beaten Aljaz as well because he isn't all that great on grass, while Jordan definitely is.  Also with Aljaz he knew what to expect.
I sure  it didn't help playing Jordan instead of Aljaz .

Totally agree, you think you are feeling better then it makes you feel poorly again, Aileen knows as she's had it and I know quite a few close friends who have had it . Just might not be Andy's year this year.

Sorry if somebody has already asked this - but when was the last ATP tournament when the three top seeds all went out in one day, and none of them ranked lower than #6 either?

Well that was a bit embarrassing. From that superhero kit he was wearing to the news that got out before the event even stated that he would donate his prize money. I wasn't sure about Wimbledon before today, i'm certainly not convinced now.

I think he's been waiting for someone to grab the number 1 ranking off his shoulders, he's not interested in it, and he's not prepared to fight for it outside of slams and he certainly doesn't look comfortable with the focus on him that comes with it. If he is just wanting to focus on slams now like Wawrinka, let's hope it doesn't backfire. An early loss at Wimbledon and the alarm bells will definitely be ringing. In the grand scheme of things, this isn't anything to panic about, but it's still disconcerting.

http://m.bbc.com/sport/tennis/40347469 . Jordan didn't won ome match in 2017 on ATP level.

And soms more.... worrying analyses.

Who'd have thought that Jordan Thompson would be the first Aussie player to beat Andy on the main tour?!

So that's Andy's streak of breaking serve in consecutive matches, and his unbeaten record against Aussies, in one match against a lucky loser.

Second lucky loser to beat Andy this year.

Jordan had won 11 matches in 2017 on the ATP level, prior to the Andy win.

Andy said in a post-match interview that he might consider playing some exhos prior to Wimbledon.  He has played at The Boodles in the past for the same reason, so I'm sure they'd welcome him back again this year.  The matches there don't start until the 27th so plenty of time to prepare.

Hoping he opts for Hurlingham not Boodles - which has always been quite silly even for an exho.

I didn't know The boodles (sounds like a bad pop rock band). Big names were playing in 2016. Seems good to play some good matches. Maybe this could put him on the right track.

Ok you surely know better ATL. Whatever this is, something where he can play and relax

Honestly the sooner he looses the number 1 ranking the better its been like a noose around his neck since he got it yesterday was the worst I have seen in the 12 years I have been following him .

aileen and deb: I didn't see the match but have read a number of accounts and the word 'listless' jumped out at me.  I immediately wondered whether that was the aftermath of the shingles still in his system.  My understanding is that it comes and goes so it may be that it was in abeyance in Paris.
I suppose the bad-mouthing of andy on this thread was inevitable.  I don't read back to during the match as I can understand people getting carried away. But some people might like to try and put themselves in Andy's shoes and try and think how he must feel - especially in front of his home crowd.    I simply don't believe he didn't care.  It can't have helped playing a lucky loser and only knowing that a few hours before though, to his credit, Andy refused to hide behind that to excuse a poor performance,  I somehow feel he might have managed to scrape through against Bedene even though playing poorly as he know B's game and B didn't have all that court time on grass already that JT had.
Oh and ss I don't think it has anything to do with the no 1 ranking (other than that achieving it took too much out of him so let him hang on to it for as long as possible given that),
