Murray's Ranking

Quote

Oh. My. Word.

Cat among the pigeons right there.

Not beating Djokovic in the final in Paris, then...;-)

Aran,  What if he loses Paris would then winning the last of those at Miami do the task?

Not sure, but no need to worry about that any more... Smile

If Andy now takes the No1 spot in Paris, how quickly could Djokovic regain it, worst case scenario?

That's got to be London, hasn't it?  Murray can only get about 400 points ahead, and there's a lot more than that on the table in London.

Plus Andy has Davis Cup points to come-off from last year's Final - 275 I think.  So, even if Andy wins Paris it'll be difficult to hold on to it this year and Andy will probably have to do better than Djoker at the O2.

I think that at the end of this week now it is that IF Andy makes the final he becomes the world number one even if only for a week. Our ranking experts can confirm or correct that!?

Without the Davis Cup to worry about he can concentrate on having his best ever O2 tournament now.  Time that he at least made the semis?

This is correct.

He might lose it immediately, and to hold on to it for year end he'll have to equal/better Djokovic at the O2 - but frankly, and whilst it would be nice to be the year end #1, just getting there would be enough to book his place in the history books of tennis #1s.

But as he says - if he doesn't do it this week, so be it, he's got plenty of opportunity over the next 3-4 months.

But what a tonic for GB tennis if he did when taken together with Jo Konta becoming a top ten player in the ladies.

needs to win Paris still to put him in pole position for year end number one. not to mention all the additional milestones that would tick off: 8th title of the year, first time he's won 3 masters, 7th out of the 9 masters won. plus i really wouldn't like him to lose another masters final to cilic!

Agree. Paris masters really should be on his cv, when you look at the street-sweepers that have won it in the past because of its reputation as a tankfest at the end of the season.

Oh come on 5 rings let's rejoice that he will no longer carry the tag of best player never to be no 1.   I'm so happy for him.  He has worked so hard since that back op and has shown such amazing consistency since the clay court season this year.  Next step of course is to try to consolidate it tomorrow and at the 02 so he is end of year no 1.  We can then start thinking about Oz and RG - and it's the latter Andy has recently been talking about being his next goal.
Yes he'll play Isner Deb. And can only help to have a day's rest just like in Vienna.  Apparently he's going to have a hit on court and speak to crowd but Sky stopped their programme before he came out.  Could be on their website I think.
