Incredible achievment. Out of 7.4 billion people in the world, Andy Murray is officially the best tennis player!

Oh come on 5 rings let's rejoice that he will no longer carry the tag of best player never to be no 1. I'm so happy for him. He has worked so hard since that back op and has shown such amazing consistency since the clay court season this year. Next step of course is to try to consolidate it tomorrow and at the 02 so he is end of year no 1. We can then start thinking about Oz and RG - and it's the latter Andy has recently been talking about being his next goal. Yes he'll play Isner Deb. And can only help to have a day's rest just like in Vienna. Apparently he's going to have a hit on court and speak to crowd but Sky stopped their programme before he came out. Could be on their website I think.
my apologies to dex I didn't pick up on the Raonic withdrawal. What a gift plus a rest before a low pressure match tomorrow.

Another 7 for the records - seven years since he first became No 2 in September 2009.

Ah this is wonderful news I wonder how much his Brother becoming number 1 motivated him lol. Is that also a first by the way? 2 siblings becoming number 1 in singles and doubles? shame it wasn't at the same time. Anyway, I actually started to think this was plausible once he turned his fortunes around on clay, It seemed to hold him back before, but now he's been consistent throughout the whole year, it's really paid off. Really chuffed for him.

The is the Nial Smith poster Deb mentioned. Didn't one of Novak's parents make some remark about the King being dead in 2011 - sometime during the clay season that year when Novak beat Fed? And then Fed beat Novak at RG and he did that finger wagging thing?

The guy in the frame immediately before Murray is a bit blurry, hard to make him out.
