my thanks too TD. Only had a quick glance but Andy at 14 (and let's hope still rising) must put him up there as a tennis great even if not part of the select GOAT herd?

Interesting note from the ATP that this is the first time since the modern rankings began in 1973 that ten different nations have been represented in the top ten.
And no Americans or Aussies either. Impressive! my thanks too TD. Only had a quick glance but Andy at 14 (and let's hope still rising) must put him up there as a tennis great even if not part of the select GOAT herd?
He'll always be the GOAT to me regardless.

And no Americans or Aussies either. Impressive! Aye, that really is extraordinary. And lets not forget while we're at it that Gordon Reid has become the THIRD Scots tennis No 1 with his wheelchair success.

Congrats to Gordon on his no. 1 ranking
Don't know where to put this. Djokovic and Becker have split.

Hadn't heard that, but not at all surprised. Been in the wind for ages. Be interesting to see if Becker can keep his mouth shut though.

I'd like to be impartial, but I can't!

The voice of optimism

There is quite a big imminent threat to Andy's word number 1 ranking. Its a possible early meeting with a certain big Argentinian in the Aussie Open. Given Delpo is ranked 38 then Andy could meet him in R32. I think with a good pre-season Delpo is probably the third best player in the world. I just hope he is in Joker's half or at worst does not play Andy before the semis.

I agree. Delpo's going to be a major threat next season and beyond if his wrists hold up, which I sincerely hope they do. I still maintain he'd have won more Slams by now had those injuries not interfered so cruelly in his career. Mind you Fed didn't do his cause much good in 2009 by endlessly complaining about hawk-eye, accusing Delpo of using it to his advantage, and probably more importantly repeatedly hitting to Delpo's ferocious forehand.

I agree Delpo would be one of the current big 3. I'm a fan, but not when he plays Andy. All the big players give him the respect he deserves, they know how good he is. When both Andy and he are well rested, I'd still give Andy the edge though. Like you guys I'm waiting for the fall-out from Becker/Djokovic parting.

JMDP's back hand is still a weakness. And I'm still not convinced about his fitness. However, only time will tell. And of course this Becker/Nole split is going to be interesting in terms of how it impacts on Nole's game. Becker did improve his game/mindset but quite possibly the arrangement had run it's course. Don't think the presence of the guru made Boris too happy tho.......

Delpo has come through some pretty long tough matches this year with no obvious serious physical fitness problems, so I don't see that as being an issue. Also his backhand has got stronger as the year has gone on, so hopefully it'll continue to do so. What he lacks there though is more than compensated for by his serve and ferocious forehand. And of course this Becker/Nole split is going to be interesting in terms of how it impacts on Nole's game. Becker did improve his game/mindset but quite possibly the arrangement had run it's course. The concept of Boris and a Cuddles guru working together isn't an image which readily springs to mind! I'm just grateful that at least Djoko has his long-time coach Marian Vajda with him to keep him grounded!

Feel the love and all that clap-trap would go against the grain with Becker. His idea was to dominate opponents don't let them back into the game, which is polar opposite to the Guru. Becker would not want to be part of that, in fact I'd say he was embarrassed to be part of it at the O2.

trust the voice of doom to start worrying about that before we've even sung auld lang syne. Well there's a 50-50 chance he'll be in the joker's side of the draw so let's just hope. But I agree he's a potential threat and I guess he'll be easily back in the top 10 by end of year provided he stays injury free.
