Watching this again as he needs to go a little higher in the rankings to help with entries into other events after USO.

Does he not get 10 points for reaching last 32 in a 250 tournament? I am rather out of touch with looking at this without much tennis for so long.

Just looked. Andy's at no. 111. If he wins the next round against Tiafoe, he would have 10 more points, which would bump him up about four spots. If he won the whole thing it would put him in the low 70s.

Progress.  Andy has jumped to 94th in live ranking as others have dropped points this week.  A win in the first rounf=d in Rotterdam would help consolidate his position.

^ Andy is slowly working back up the rankings.  87 in the live rankings.  More significant to me is that he now needs just four more wins to have 700 in his professional career.  I think that will depend a lot on the Dubai draw after Doha.

He still has two of his nineteen events to make up his total points with zero points so he has the opportunity to gain on others with any wins in other places.

^ While it's great that Andy is slowly going back up the rankings at the moment, if he skips the entire clay court season then presumably he'll slip down them again!

^ No, I think that will not be the case. He does plan to play tournaments on grass so he will lose out on big points only from French Open and some 500/1000 tournaments that he has previously played but there are not too many. He has no points scored on clay in his points tally! He will lose 48 points in a few weeks time but a round won in Doha and or Dubai would help him recover what he loses.

Andy was low in the rankings last year primarily because he had not played 19 events within the time frame for inclusion. These last two months he has been 'catching up' others just by adding more points and not dropping many. He has three events included with zero points so can replace those with better points from other events. Others will also improve there points tally but Andy is still in a nett gain situation when he wins one or two matches per tournament.

I have kept the explanation as simple as I can!   Others will perhaps want to be pedantic about points make-up?  This a general indication only
