Murray's Ranking

Quote

It's not a risk worth taking. What if bombs out in first round in Australia with no points cushion? We cannot rely on Indian Wells to gain. Certainly he can't gain in Miami. The clay season yes he can gain but then there is Wimbledon with 2000 points. It's a dumb idea.

Can't we get this year finished before we start stressing over next year?

Not to worry Smile.  I haven't seen anything to suggest Andy might have a break either. If he doesn't I hope it will because he doesn't feel he needs it, rather than because he may be anxious about ranking points. I totally agree with Ruthie, I wouldn't want to see Andy chasing every tournament in sight. That wouldn't be good for him, surely.

I hope you and Ruthie and everyone going has a great time. Fingers crossed for Andy too, not just that he plays well, but also that he doesn't end up being treated as he was last year by that daft element.

Any "daft element " near me Teejay will get short swift   I am still hoping Rf won't be there anyway.

Looks like Andy's got 15 ranking points from the Davis Cup.  Could be crucial at some point in the future!

I must apologise  in a previous post I stated that Andy's participation in the Davis Cup was pointless. I now see he 's been given 15 ranking points for winning three matches . Possibly these  points might prove crucial as is the opinion of Mackem, personally I think they can only be described as expensive in time and energy.

I think Andy enjoyed it Bennie, so that alone has  surely got to make it worthwhile!

I would agree that Andy  enjoyed himself and I was pleased to hear him pointing out that it would take a stronger team to stay in the top league for Davis Cup
Whether a would be contender for the no I position in Tennis should be "enjoying himself" after his dismal showing in the US Open, amid constant comments re injury is a matter for debate

Win or lose, Andy works harder than anyone and if anyone 'deserves to enjoy themselves' once in a while, it's him! That's just my opinion of course!

I'm not even going to pretend to understand that remark. Andy did enjoy the DC tie, but I bet what he enjoyed more was helping the team win. To do that he played three best of five set matches in three days. That's hard work by anyone's standard. What are we saying now, Andy isn't allowed to have fun if he loses? Maybe Lendl should go mad and find him a naughty chair to sit on.

Constant comments re injury? Whose? Andy's? If so, I don't recall Andy saying he was injured during the USO, but what was patently obvious was that he was just mentally jaded after Wimbledon. He was entitled to be given the situation. The tension of that last game of the Wimbledon final alone probably lingered for a while. Andy was quoted during the DC tie as having watched the last game of the Wimbledon final a number of times, because he couldn't take in that he really had won. Personally I do think Andy's back wasn't right in New York, but that is just my opinion.

If you think quarter finals in a slam is dismal I don't really know what to say, especially in the context of how well Andy has done in the slams in the last 12 months. Andy has clearly got plenty of chance to win many more slams, but it's unlikely he is going to win every one he plays in.

There are some very sad people on here. I agree with every word you said Teejay. Andy never says he is injured, when he has pain in his back and he is questioned, he usual answer is it's a little sore, or stiff. He is not the one commenting on it.

And Ferrer lost some, so the gap between them has widened a bit.

Rather bizarrely, Fed is now back at no 5, and Berdy at 6! Berdy was only 20 points ahead of Fed, but didn't defend all his points from last year because only live rubbers earn points. As Czech Rep won the first three matches, the Sunday matches earned nothing, so even if he'd played he wouldn't have got any points!

Ignore benniebone, they are the same person who complained that all DC ties should be played on Hard Court LOL.

Thanks. You're right too. Andy has rarely said a lot about his back except for in those awful times last year when all and sundry were having a go at him and he was forced to defend himself, but other than that he will just say it's sore or whatever.

Far from certain people having a go at Andy over an injury, we should consider how much he played last weekend and we should be glad his back stood up to it. In that last match I thought Andy was moving pretty well. He didn't seem to be in discomfort with his back. I would have thought that was a good thing.
