The voice of optimism

Yes agree he will number 10. He will have about 3000 points and will be leapfrogged by Grigor. This is going to be a new experience for Andy and he'll be hurting. Hopefully a reality check like this is what he needs to find his game again.

The good thing is, Andy is a mere 1100 points from No. 5. So if he focuses well in Toronto, he could be there faster than we anticipate.

I am hoping he takes a wild card into Washington. Just to vulture the points.

Is that to be a new line of attack then?

Don't think he will. Straight onto Toronto I would say.

I did wonder if he would get a wildcard into the grass tournie in Germany but that would probably be too much as it is only a 250.

Is he not still facing zero pointers? He could enter, but he'd have to win to have a relatively small benefit to his ranking.
So long as he doesn't do a Fed and enter some clay court tournaments to 'practice with a new racquet'. However, that reminds me, Petch said he was playing with a different racquet ratio this year.

I'm paranoid. But am I paranoid enough?

Needs to start focusing on Masters, 500s and 250s, and fast. I've been saying this since Toronto last year.
Murray's career is seriously at a crossroads.

One of the 0 pointers is Washington. If he was to play that then he would gain points if he won the second round match. Raonic, Nishikori, Isner and Dimitrov are all playing there.
The current race to London rankings before Friday are as follows.
5th Berdych - 3050 6th Dimitrov - 2785 7th Murray - 2435 8th Nishikori - 2405 9th Ferrer - 2385 10th Gulbis - 2265 11th Raonic - 2205
The live rankings before Friday are as follows.
5th Berdych - 4410 6th Raonic - 3920 7th Ferrer - 3875 8th Del Potro - 3360 9th Dimitrov - 3270 10th Murray - 3040 11th Nishikori - 2780 12th Isner - 2735 13th Gulbis - 2680

Sadly, even if he WINS Toronto and Cinci, that's only going to take him up to 5th or 6th. Then he has a QF to defend at the USO...

have you been to see Monty Python then Angie - always look on the bright side of life eh? Actually as someone who has got tickets I'm delighted to read it. And Mac says he's confident Andy will be back in the top 4 by the end of the year. From his presser I'd say Andy is going to work very hard to get back up there and with so few points to defend now (though just read the reminder of QF points at USO), I can't believe he'll not move back up the rankings. So I'm trying to look on the bright side of life too.

I think we would take him winning back to back titles as a huge step in the right direction and worry about the QF at the USO during the USO. If that happens it basically guarantees a place in the WTF. That's what I'm looking at now as some sort of success for 2014. Winning 2 titles before the O2 begins.

5th is better than 10th.
