Murray's Ranking

That would probably come at Wimbledon providing Andy did well. Smile

If Federer loses tomorrow or his Quarter Final, Murray has to beat Gonzo and he's the new world number 2. After that it's a round further.

I'm wondering how volatile/interchangeable the top 4 places are over the next few months !

Not very imo. Djoko has just dropped a distance. Fed and Murray are still very close, but this tournament means a lot. Wimbly obv Nad/fed are defending a lot, Muzz a bit and Djok hardly anything but I doubt Djok will catch Murray. Gets to Masters in America, could be looking at a new number 1 mind. After that, very interchangeable. Long way ahead though. Let's just get through this week and see Very Happy

How many times since Wimbledon have you sat and looked forward at the points Andy could win, but thought never in a million years he would and been presently surprised. They out number the ones you think he would win and gets beaten.
History should teach us to think positive
Rafa No.1 going into U.S.Open

Still Nadal I think. Just too big a gap for Murray to make up. Doubt he'll go further than either fed/nadal at wimbly but you never know. If he somehow flukes 2nd seed then he could be in djoko's half of the draw and big big potential from that scenario.

Fluke would be the word! If Andy wins RG and Queens while Fed looses  his matches in both andy would Just get 2nd seed.  If  Andy looses his games and Djoko wins Halle  Andy would still be 3rd seed at Wimbledon.   I think its fair to say Andy will be 3rd seed for Wimbledon.   However on same  logic if Andy goes as far as Fed at RG then Andy will be world no 2 at Wimbledon.

I know we've all said that Fed will almost certainly be number 2 for Wimbly BUT....

The maths. (I think)

Federer will have for his Wimbledon seeding, 10160 + (2 x Halle 09) + Madrid + Rome + Roland Garros
Murray will have for his Wimbledon seeding, 8742.5 + (2 x Queens 09) + Madrid + Rome + Roland Garros + Monte Carlo -90

Theoretically it's possible Murray makes 1418 more points than Federer in those 4 (5 for Murray) tournaments. - But unlikely if you ask me. It's actually more likely Murray is seeded 2nd for Roland Garros as he only needs 550 points more than Federer (although only 3 tournaments for Murray to get that in, but all worth 1000 points to the winner). lmao

The UPDATE

Federer - 10160 + 1000 (madrid) + 360 (Rome) = 11520 + Roland Garros (currently 180) + 2xHalle

Murray - 8742.5 + 180 (madrid) + 10 (Rome) = 8932.5 + Roland Garros (currently 360) + 2 x Queens.

So Murray is currently 2407.5 behind. Fed loses tomorrow, Murray wins the tournament then he's 767.5 behind, so in actual fact, Murray CAN'T be number 2 seed or Wimbledon Frown

Knew it was unlikely anyway. Oh well.....

World Number 2 is certainly on though Smile

Interesting point - if Andy wins RG and Wimbledon he's guaranteed to be the new world #1. If he wins one and reaches the final of the other then he's #1 provided Rafa doesn't reach the Wimbledon final.

So Andy's currently 10 wins away from officially being the best player in the world Very Happy

Obviously that's a long shot, but it's not infeasible.

And I reckon Nadal's still favourite to be number 1 come the US Open, although if Fed or Murray wins RG then whoever wins will have an argument to be the new favourite.

I can't believe we are discussing the possibility of being no. 1! This is a very exciting discussion but unless Nadal completely crumbles at Queen and Wimbledon I would think it is unlikely to happen - but heres hoping!

Thanks Torin for the fascinating analysis.  If Andy wins both FO and Wim then all hell will break lose with the British media.
