Providing he finishes top 20 of course. But he's guaranteed now on both counts. In all reality he was assured when he hit 4000 points.

Why are we worrying about Andy qualifying for WTF as he already has?  Ferrer has not yet even though the qualify point has dropped.  The only three are Nadal, Djokovic and Andy.

He always plays a lot of tournaments, but usually Andy is able to stay comfortably ahead. I think it's more to do with Andy not playing the French Open and Ferrer reaching the final there, and Andy's big loss of points from not defending his USO title.

Andy's won Wimbledon. Are you having a laugh? Ferrer may overtake Andy temporary in rankings. But he is no way better than Andy. Ferrer will never achieve what Andy has.

I don't consider Andy to be "the best of the rest" anyway-that title was really there when Andy hadn't won any majors,and some people didn't consider him to properly be one of the Big Four.To my mind,Andy's put that one well to rest now,and if some people still only consider him to be the "best of the rest",when he's now won the Olympics,USO and Wimbledon,well they'll probably never be convinced.Their loss Shrug

I agree Dani. I've got so much respect for what Andy's been able to achieve in an era including two of the greatest players of all time. No other player has had to deal with the pressure he faced to win a slam - but he did it. Smile

He's way above players like Ferrer, Del Potro, Tsonga, Berdych etc. in his career achievements. He definitely deserves to be talked of as part of the big 3 right now. There's very little to choose between him and Novak, though Andy does seem to have the edge now on medium/fast hardcourts and grass. I hope he can meet Rafa in Shanghai just so we can see what that matchup is like now.

If Andy doesn't finish the year ahead of Ferrer, and even Djokovic, I will eat my hat.

I kind of expect the press to have a go at Andy, they've done it before. Funnily enough though, most decent tennis writers have shown nothing but understanding of what happened at the USO, so to come on here and see a comment like 'best of the rest' is unbelievable to me. It comes across as a wee bit smug to be honest, a bit like waiting for Andy to 'fail' in order to say 'I told you so, didn't I'.

Andy has been to two major finals this year and won one of them - and that was the one considered the pinnacle, Wimbledon. Andy has also won a Masters and there are two more Masters to go this year, one of which he has a great record in. If he is fit and mentally fresh he could do it again. Then there is the WTF, where I do think Andy will be motivated.

Andy is well ahead of Ferrer in the race, which becomes increasingly important as of now. Andy had to miss the French, which didn't help, and he was mentally tired for the USO swing, but there is no way Ferrer is going to catch him. I don't see Ferrer defending Paris.

I know this is a really stupid question, and someone else might have asked before, but what happens if no one else made the cut for the WTF? I know it's probably unlikely anyway, but would they go by who was top 8 by the time the WTF comes round?

I think, but I am not sure that as each tournament and its available points passes, the cut of point for qualification becomes lower and lower, so the scenario you postulate simply couldn't occur. Perhaps somebody else could offer a more  comprehensible explanation?

That's correct.  It is also whythe Paris Open is the shape it is.  It decides the final places.
