AO F - Murray vs Federer

Quote

Andy had good chances at 2-2 in the first set but he missed them.

Still, kudos to Andy for hunging in and "only" losing the second set 6-4 whilst Fed was on a roll.  He did not lose 13 straight games like Davydenko did or gave up like Tsonga did.

That 3rd set was so tight.  If he took 1 of those 5 set points, it would have changed the dynamic of the match a little.

I don't think the AO court is good for him.  It sticks to his feet and make running and changing direction difficult and painful to the lower back.

I don't like the way Andy is relying on his court coverage to win points.  Coria (also Nadal) was fantastic on clay doing something similar until his wheels fell off and then everything was finished.  I think Andy should learn from Federer's play to conserve energy and prolong his tennis career to get those GSs that he desires so much.

Bless him. Bless his wee cotton socks.
He did so well the whole tournament, he should be proud, I feel proud of him.
Also, the crying - never seen that before but i think it's a good thing coz it shows how much he wanted it. Also, it was cute and I wanted to hug him.  hug

Apart from third set, Andy was fairly sh*t... so we can at least take comfort in knowing that if Andy played like he did against Nadal, he could have had a great chance to win.
I completely disagree. You can't judge how well Andy played against Nadal compared to this match becasue at the moment, Fed is a much better player than Rafa and so the tactics etc. were completely different.

I thought Andy played well today but didn't take his chances which was the key.

Did you get the close up of his trainer?  Hole in the front right - Adidas need to sort that out.  He wasn't happy with the sweat bands either Think   Bring back Fred Perry!

fed won one more point in 1st set. I expect 3rd set was similarly close.

He only went up one place. He was fourth and now he's third.

Thanks Bev.  Did Andy change his trainer after the game or was this during the tie-break ? That is shoddy quality from Adidas to say the least and can easily have lost him a point or two.

But anyway, it's the start of the year, so much to look forward to. I think we'll see him in the final of Wimbledon which would just be amazing.

Until he loses in straights again.

Roll on Clay, because the rest of the year isn't going to be much fun if Federer doesn't burn out before the USO.

I agree.  I think a lot of the emotion at the end from Andy, came from being very frustrated/disappointed with himself, in that he did have chances he wasn't able to take today.

'I'm sorry I couldn't do it for you'......

Don't be sorry, lad.  You'll be back, and so will we  yay

Nope, close up was during the tie break.  They were saying that it's when he drags his foot during the serve.  Real shoddy quality though.  I'm sure I'd heard that he doesn't like the shirts much too - to do with him sweating dontknow
