How do you know what Andy thought?  Anyway there were other good players in the draw for the spectators to watch and I'm sure the crowd appreciated the wins of three of the other seeds - Gasquet, Pouille and Bonzi.

Also the prices of tickets for today's matches weren't exactly extortionate, being 10 euros (£8:50) and 5 euros (£4:25) respectively, with vaccination certificates being required for entry.

This is a fair and non-hysterical assessment of the match

That was the problem he never gave any thought to spectators. If you think his attitude and performance were acceptable then that's your right but to myself and many others it was terrible as one person said why bother even taking the invite if your not going to take it serious he should be taking a long hard look at himself today and decide if he really wants to carry on playing I would suggest not if he's going to play with that attitude from now on.

Last night was extremely worrying, but I find it hard to believe that Andy would not try and deliberately tank the match - it goes against everything he believes in. I think he's lost the fight, and is unable to turn a match around in his favour. I'd be more worried that he's not even doing the basics well. The backhand is a shadow of his former shot, whether that's the hip playing a part I don't know. How many times did he dump the backhand into the net last night???
I'd be curous to know where he sees himself ranking wise at the end of the season...

IF he can stay healthy then I think results will come. I can see him potentially still going far in tournaments in anything up to Masters level. Not grand slams though - those days are gone.

on the subject of a tank, it's interesting that yesterday confirmed he was playing both metz and san diego, presumably followed by indian wells.

could it be that andy was instead thinking of going far in both the 250s? thinking about the points and ranking situation and thus it being better to have the chance to go deep at those bigger tournaments; if he had won here, for example, it probably means he skips one of those two.

I think this is fair. The problem with Challengers is Andy doesn’t really want to play them. Something in his attitude at them has been off. I think something his brain is going ‘I play my best tennis against the top players, I want to play the top players at big events’.

I think he doesn't want to play challengers, he wants to play the top players - but it would actually be better to play challengers at least for the rest of this year.

Possibly linked to his age and a subconscious feeling that he doesn't have time to play lower level events - though going far at the lower events would get him back to automatic entry for the bigger ones.

Perhaps, but if he were to go far in Metz I don't see how he can realistically play in San Diego given the travel plus the nine hour time difference.

That seems the more likely reason to me.

No and nor can I find any comments by him in the media.

Isn't that strange, Andy always does a post interview, but maybe it's not required for Challengers.
