Roland Garros 2017 R2: Andy Murray vs Martin Klizan

Amalgro took a set off JMDP so I wouldn't think him beating Andy is a done deal. I've seen a bit of him and not been that impressed. He seems slow to me and his sliced backhand, which he uses a lot, is a liability.
Agree bbh I think Andy can beat him .

There's no doubt Andy is capable of beating Delpo.    Bit worried about that cough though which seems to be hanging around.    I think he reached for a lozenge whenever the match finished.

I had to go out towards the end of the first set - before Andy had broken back - and so was fearing the worst as he seemed pretty ineffectual against Klizan who was bashing away and making a hell of a row in doing so (must tb be one of the worst grunters in the game).  Got back just before the final tie-break and what a way to finish.  Although I've read that Andy was complaining about his movement again,  the bit I saw at the end looked pretty good.
Apparently delpo had to have treatment on his groin during his match, which might explain why he lost the 2nd set.  Anyway, while I think it will probably be an incredibly tense match, I'd have thought Andy will take a lot of confidence from the 2 difficult matches he's now won, So while, not surprisingly, he's not back to peak Murray, he certainly seems to be beginning to climb out of the trough he was in.  I'm encouraged because tbh I wasn't even sure he'd get this far on the evidence of his last two tournaments and the further illness in Paris.

I don't think the cough is much of an issue. More worried about the elbow shake

I didn't see enough to be able to comment on the elbow shake but is it possible that it's partly preventative to keep it loose and/or that it's become a bit of a habit in the way Andy's clutching at certain body parts used to be?

sure hope so but the perceptive Jim Courier reckons his serve speed has been affected in a similar way to John Isners when had a similar problem which he has now completely recovered from.

Thanks BBH because I haven't watched his matches.

I don't think so either.  He says it only troubles him when he's speaking (as was evidenced in the on-court interview), and also even once a chest/throat infection has cleared up it's perfectly normal for some irritation to continue for a while - and I'm quoting my GP on that one!

Yes I heard Courier say that too, and I do trust him on matters like that.  I didn't know Isner had had that problem, but at least it's encouraging to know that it's something which will eventually go away.  I also think he said it was more likely to affect his second serve than the first, although I can't remember why, or what Courier suggested he could do to minimise this.

yes I agree it's still affecting his serve speed but that doesn't necessarily mean it's still hurting.  I can imagine it might take a bit of time to regain the confidence to serve at full pelt if you've had an elbow injury.  I can only assume that playing isn't going to make it worse - at least I certainly hope so.

Sky commentators are being really disrespectful to Andy . i wish they would just shut up and stop going on about Fed and Nadal being a different class.
