Round 3 Cincinatti: Murray vs Anderson

Quote

tomic waiting in the quarters. even raonic (who has a breeze of a draw) is about to go a set all with sugita. i can't see any way murray would lose to tomic and if he reaches the final he won't be losing that. so it's either tonight or maybe raonic in the semis. starting to look like a great opportunity without even being dragged into a bunch of physical matches like last year. just needs to survive tonight.

Andy must be beyond tired. But the  no1 goal may be driving him - he knows it won't come without super-human effort so maybe he is thinking that he must try for any catch up ground he can gain
He also believes in taking care of his body, so that might just take priority here, particularly with the USO and DC coming up.  By the same token if he can keep himself fit and injury-free then I'd say he's got more of a chance of achieving #1 next year.  Djoko on the other hand has hammered his to achieve his ambition and more, so could now perhaps be something of a spent force, unless he stages one of his remarkable recoveries very soon.

Apollo sends you a big cheer on Andy because she's unable to watch the match!

Uh-oh ... it's starting to rain a little.   Umpire requesting that players come off the court to let the lines be dried.  No umbrellas up though so I reckon it's just a very light shower.

Andy serving.  Starts off with an ace.

And at 30-0 the rain starts again so players off the court.  It's quite heavy this time and now the players have been sent to the locker-room.  Spectators either leaving or putting brollies up.   I don't like the look of those big black clouds either.  Such a shame because the weather's been fine all day.

I didn't notice that, but it's bouncing down now, so goodness knows when they'll get to play, or even if they'll get to play.  Andy should pull out right now if his shoulder's bothering him, unless it's just a bit of stiffness which could wear off as the match progresses.

Andy holds.  1-0.

Now it's 1-1.

4th ace of the match and it's 2-1.

2-2

DF and Anderson breaks.  2-3   Andy keeps holding the back of his right shoulder, particularly after serving.

Andy the lobman strikes again to get BP.  Cross-court FH and he breaks.  3-3.

dumps serve with two double faults and a really passive game.

fantastic game to break back, especially those last two points.

That lob was an Andy special.  Must have landed just inside the baseline.

Serves an ace to to go 40-30, then DFs to make it deuce.

Long rally which Andy loses to go to deuce #3

Ad Andy.  Lovely return from Anderson and it's back to deuce.

2 aces and Andy holds.  4-3.
