 Having read all your topics in the last weeks , i am so surprised. Most of you have never played tennis.

Andy has a great game, superb to watch and will win a grand slam. unfortunatley, as we are all aware he is in an era of Federer, Nadal and now Djokovic.

i agree he needs a full time coach and perhaps a sports psyclogist, but in his own way he will get there. Please do not pull him down when he  looses, we are all human! He is great, just support him and he will come through.

If you're going to take us to task over our views and comments at least spell correctly in the thread title
I can't play tennis to save my life, I admit it. However, I do know the rules, techniques and understand the science of the sport.
As you yourself have just stated, he's really good-but not as good as the top 3 and until he stops committing tennis suicide on court at Grand Slams against the big players then he's not going to win a Grand Slam. That's the truth. That doesn't mean he's not the best player Britain has had in the open era and also doesn't mean that on a good day he can't beat the top 3. Until then though we have the right and ability to tell the truth when he's stupid and doesn't play like a world No. 4 who has made tennis his life's work.

Yes well said Aileen. I played tennis decades ago but it was a very different game then and Id really like to hear the commentators explaining more about the technical side of the game, and how the players control the ball  use spin and cope with different surfaces and weather conditions. You tend to get graphics showing where the ball lands which aren't very helpful but apart from that I reckon the comms don't tell us very much and sometimes they sound half asleep!!

Like you I played tennis in a totally different era.  Also I never had any formal coaching so words like "spin", "flat-hitting", etc, were unknown to me.  I've only really started watching the sport again, apart from Wimbledon, since getting a computer two years ago (couldn't, and still can't, afford Sky).  However, I do pay a reasonable annual subscription to the ATP's own tennisTV.com which is streamed live from ESPN, and I find their commentators quite helpful when it comes to explaining things.  At least, thank goodness, they don't spend half the time rabbiting on about trivia which has little or nothing to do with the match they're commentating on!

Thankfully neither ESPN or its commentators (and a couple of 'regulars' are British although it's basically an American network) feel the need to do the same when Andy is playing.

... and quite often it's not bad language at all but 'focus'!  It's interesting that they rarely comment on the bad language of other players even when it is in English.

I agree - and it's blatantly obvious that players are swearing in their own language as well.  You don't need to understand it to know that.  I've a cousin who speaks Spanish and she tells me that some of the language coming from the lips of Spanish-speaking players is very ripe!  And I find Verdasco's on-court theatricals are quite something to behold, yet nobody complains.
