Stockholm R2: Andy Murray vs Jannik Sinner

Quote

Having survived a second set scare against Durasovic, Andy now plays 20 year old Jannik Sinner, the No.1 seed and world No.10.

Sinner, who started the season ranked world No.37, has since won four titles along with reaching his maiden Masters 1000 final at the Miami Open where he lost to Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets, as well as breaking into the top 10 at the end of last month with a career high ranking of No.9.  However at the Vienna Open he blew a commanding lead against Frances Tiafoe in the semi-finals and then lost his opening match at the Paris Masters to Carlos Alcaraz.  As a result of those two losses he narrowly missed out on qualifying for the ATP Finals.  His biggest defeat though came on the grass of Queens where he lost 7-6, 7-6. in round 2 to Britain's Jack Draper, then ranked No. 309.

Andy though as no illusions as to what he's up against - “He’s one of the best players in the world.  Yes he’s obviously young but he’s ranked in the top 10 in the world.  Certainly on this surface, he’s maybe the best of the young ones. Indoor hard courts I think is a good surface for him, he’s won a number of tournaments on these so far."

The match is scheduled for not before 5 pm GMT.

I'm going for Andy in three based sort of on the Hurkacz example—huge young gun coming up against an Andy whose driving force is showing huge young guns that he's still got it going on. Fingers crossed like anything.

I've gone for Sinner in three, but think you've got a good point.  Also looking at Sinner's record over the year he's lost a few times to players ranked much lower than himself, so is definitely beatable.  Keeping everything crossed though!

I hope the match is competitive. It's a very good surface for both players.
I'm sure Andy will want to go into the off season feeling happy with his performance.

Well put. I will do the same but with an optimistic rather than a convinced feeling.

I did not find any alternative to the Tennis Channel for Stockholm matches yesterday. Did anyone else find a safe video stream? Would like to see today even if only after the event whatever the result.

I really cannot decide, but my heart wants to say Andy in 3.  I look at everyone’s comments later.

Thanks but I fail with that too!  I have the cricket to watch so I should not be greedy. I shall follow point by point albeit frustrating.

MA, just so you know, it's also on the ATP's own TennisTV online, which I think you can sign up for free as long as you cancel the subscription within a week or something. tennistv.com

So far Andy is quite solid, and what‘s more Sinner is not immaculate.

Still nothing in it but Andy saves the first BP. 4-3 on serve
