Toronto R2: Andy Murray vs Max Purcell (Q)

Quote

With the back against the wall Andy was re-energised and P, as hoped, went off the boil. Incredible effort from Andy against a really tricky opponent, great support from the fans, valuable ranking points.

Re the comparison to Shapo: the Canadian is so extroverted that it is sometimes stressful to watch him whereas Purcell hardly shows emotions, which makes him boring to watch for me.

I just want to say that you have me to thank for Andy's recovery. I was so freaked out that I turned it off and watched the news!! Then I looked at the live scores and he'd come back! You're welcome
I’ll raise you..
Yesterday I shouted as loudly as I could to “Keep yer heid, Andy!” and I swear he gave me eye contact! (I was close enough to court)
And now he goes on…
That’s my theory Smile

You’re right about Shapo. I don’t get stressed about him anymore because he’s only going backwards. Shame because he has all the good’s but doesn’t seem to be plugged in.
I get stressed about Felix because he is the real deal, but I fear he’s missing the window of opportunity. imo he needed to ditch his long time coach and pt uncle Tio.

I feel like that about both Shapo and Tsitsipas.  Maybe they both want to be models, or philosophers, or rappers or something rather than tennis players?

Good news to wake up to but it sounds like it was a pretty tough match.

Plays Jannik Sinner next only it'll be a middle of the night match in Europe.

OMG!! A classic Murraycoaster. The agony and the ecstasy. God knows how he'll feel tomorrow! But the guy does not know how to give up, that's why we love him.

It is worth repeating your comment. The comments are so true.  After watching into the early hours in the UK I wonder how his many supporters are going to get their act together for the Sinner match!

My stream keeps flickering
Hi Apollo, just wanted to say that my stream did too, so it must have been the transmission or Tennis Channel, nothing to do with us specifically.

Here is Andy's on-court interview after the match.

Thanks Apollo.  From what he said at the end it sounds like putting him on an outside court did a lot of fans a big favour, especially the youngsters, and when I watched a replay I did notice him digging into his bag to find some 'souvenirs' for them because he never likes to disappoint, bless him.

Good to hear it just wasn’t me.
