Toronto R3: Andy Murray vs Jannik Sinner

^ Thank you Tamaragi.  Isee that the seeding issue appears solved by Andy's withdrawal from Cincy. I think that it would now take at least five higher ranked players to pull out of the US Open for him to be seeded? He will need to rely on a fortunate draw for a winning run in New York which must have been his target.  That is assuming his abdomen strain recovers enough for him to play. I think that he would be hoping for that as we know that he loves the big events. Perhaps he will try to be added to a warm up event at short notice at late notice to prepare his body for the slam event? Probably not a lot available?
There's Winston-Salem in between Cincy and the Open. That's it. But I would think that two weeks between now and the Open should be plenty of recovery time for him.

There's only Winston-Salem available next week, and he has played there before - in 2019 and 2021.  I can't see it happening though because I doubt he want to risk playing too many matches the week before the USO, particularly if the abdo strain is still lurking around.

^ Thanks Aileen,  Did  you see  the shots of Andy 'stretching' the abdomen muscles  whilst they were waiting for play to start in Cincy yesterday?

He had no expressions on his face to show any pain but he did not look happy, in fact rather like an ancient at the Gym with restricted movement so I could empathise with that! I was surprised that he made his decision not to play so early (he could have left it another day) but I do agree that it is better to wait on another tournament and probably till US Open.  Saying that I am sure he will be on the court very soon.

^ No I didn't see that but I did see a  very brief video of him practising on Sunday.  He tried to serve - and I repeat 'tried' because it was a somewhat half-hearted effort - so I was pretty sure then that he'd pull out.  He couldn't have left his decision making for another day because they're now onto the round 2 matches.  I don't see how he can be back on court before the USO because there doesn't seem to be any exhibition matches he could play in, so I suppose he could either return to the UK for a few days or have his family come and join him.

The interesting thing is that Khachanov pulled out as well, so I suspect that, although he did play doubles on Sunday, his lower back problem is still bothering him.

Three more withdrawals required for him to be seeded at USO. Khachanov is extremely doubtful so that could be one. Not sure where two more could come from though.

Not to be ghoulish, but Davidovich Fokina had to retire after a set against Djokovic and was evidently in quite a lot of pain.

Holger Rune could be another.  He retired from his first match against Mackenzie McDonald with a lower back injury, although from what I've heard about him he'll probably turn up.
