US Open 2015 R4: Andy Murray vs Kevin Anderson

Quote

Not a nervy match deb when he's playing on his most hated court against an in-form servebot?  Pigs might fly!  Whistle   I'm prepared for a very tense evening.  It was inevitable though that it would be on Armstrong given that the two other matches involve Americans (and also it was v unlikely he'd get away with no matches on it).  Can anyone remember when Andy has played a straightforward easy match on Armstrong?  I can't but then I don't have the memory that many MW members have.  But looking on the bright side my main memory is of the year he won when I think they had to switch to Armstrong at the last minute because the farewell to Roddick match overran.   Not sure who he was playing - Cilic?  Anyway I remember it was a nightmare to begin with but then look what happened    yay

Yes he was playing Cilic    your memory is totally accurate

I think the last straight set win Andy had on Armstrong was back in 2008 in round 1. I think he defeated a South American player whose name escapes me. I do recall a third set bagel.

You wanted reassurance?!

The other thing to bear in mind is that Andy usually has at least one 'craptastic' - to borrow a word from NYT journalist Ben Rothenberg - match in the early rounds of the USO but they usually happen on Armstrong and Andy got his early round 'craptastic' match out of the way in round 2 on Ashe... Maybe clutching at straws.

Also think about the fact that in hotter conditions Andy was at least able to serve some bombs on the shadier, slower, Ashe, so hopefully we'll see that on Armstrong, a faster court in good serving conditions.

I am hoping the Ashe court is all behind him years ago.  It will be a tough match but I feel Andy will come through because of having the testing matches first. Nole broke a racquet and lost his cool last night and apparently did not play well at all.  He has had everything going his way  perhaps the next match again might be not so easy also Fed will find it hard with Isner too.

I am hoping Andy can finish Anderson off in 4 quickish sets.  Anderson has been playing well and can easily take a set off Andy in fast condition if Andy is not in prime condition.

That at least does reassure me a little ATL!

Matt Cronin predicts Andy in three.  Also notes that Andy has a good chance to win the whole thing.
Not sure I'll get to see match as I'm traveling but will watch the live update. Good luck Andy, let your racquet do the talking.

No easy matches this tournament, if he gets past Anderson then he could face Wawrinka, then Federer and finally Djokovic!

With the players he still probably has to face, if Andy even gets to the final he will have done very well, if he wins it will be a miracle. I won't be able to see the semi finals anyway as we will be away in Wales at our youngest daughter's wedding.  Will it be Fed I wonder if he gets that far? I don't want to see him lose again to the Smug One so perhaps it's just as well. I'll be watching tonight though and wish him all the best once more. C'mon Braveheart, there's none as good as you!!! highfive trophy

Some people have all the luck - I'm stuck with Wawrinka vs Young on Ashe, courtesy of Eurosport!
