US Open 2015 R4: Andy Murray vs Kevin Anderson

Quote

Call me a pessimist and call me a defeatist but it's time to accept that Andy is probably is done winning slams. It's all well and good getting to the Final and losing to the likes of Djokovic and stuff like that, but losses to the likes of Dimitrov and Anderson in the past two years is just shocking. Woeful stuff.

Kevin played extremely well but Federer made the South African look like an amateur only 2 weeks ago.

Andy really needs to look at that 2nd serve. Much like Federer made a change to a bigger racquet and come into the net more, there has to be a change as Rafa has found by doing nothing, you get overtaken.

If Andy needs to pay big to get a legend like Sampras to fix his second serve then so be it.

Onwards and forwards as they say but bitterly disappointed to have lost to anyone especially Anderson.

Got to give it to Anderson, he played a blinder, Andy may not have been 100% but believe me you cannot win them all if the other guy plays lights out, and Anderson did exactly that.

Silver lining... more rest for Davis Cup, onwards and upwards.

ANdy wasn't even 25%. And if you play like that, of course Anderson will look good.

Out of the 4th round      world number 3 as well.    Jesus.   The serve was horrible.  Slicing the first serve most of the time.  Murray declining like Rafa.

Pushers never succeed.

Right, Geo.
From some of  the comments, I feel like I was watching a different match than they.
Kevin played the match of his life.
Nothing for Andy to be embarrassed about.
No one is at his best every day.
Kevin got Andy on a day he wasn't at his best.
Andy's played more tennis this year than any other player.
Sooner or later it catches up with you.
If he had to lose, I'd rather it be to Kevin. He's a good guy and has worked really hard to improve his game.

it's not so much that he's done winning slams. a guy as consistent as murray is always going to have a chance to sneak in for another one or two.

the main issue is that he's showing no signs of taking his game forward and instead seems to be content to be in that boat of waiting to sneak in for his opportunity. and as he gets older, or as he runs into a player on fire like we saw today, the less likely he is to survive. it's great for keeping him in the top four in the world and mostly going deep, but i'm not so sure that he's showing any real ambition or tactical planning to win these things. it's all just way, way too reactionary.

and seriously, what was that final tiebreak all about? so bad.

BHS,

He won Montreal on merit.

Sometimes you just get outplayed. Andy is still a top three player. His week has been turned upside down by a heavy cold and he lost out in the end, in my opinion, by a resulting lack of strength to stand up to the power of Anderson. I also think he thought that Kevin would not be able to keep it up for so long!

2 years since the surgery and no slam. I'm beginning to doubt it myself. Yes, Mauresmo has helped Andy to rediscover his love for the game. Well, if it's a love of non winning majors, fine.

There must be issues still. I don't know what. But he hasn't been the same player in the slams post Lendl.

Murray will never fix that second serve.   Its been the same for years and years.  Even with Lendl.

Is your life so bland that all you can do is moan about Murray?
