US Open 2015 R4: Andy Murray vs Kevin Anderson

Quote

What about pre Lendl?

Lacked the big time game to win the big ones.
His game has regressed since then.

That win against Novak should ha e given him the confidence to take on the world. But he hasn't played a truly good match since.

And if Andy has played more matches than anyone else, what is wrong with his team and their scheduling.

So he will go and play DC, then flop on the Asian swing. Fed and Novak haven't played DC this year.

Stop the bitching, just because you stayed up to watch a defeat, Andy tried but failed, so what, retire tomorrow and he's still a success, or maybe he should move to the U.S. At least there they appreciate a guy that gives it all he's got, and then some.
Don't some of you realise he is not Fed or Joker or Nadal, but he is giving everything he has, putting his cash where his mouth is building his team around him to be the best he can be, Wimbledon, U.S. Open, Olympic Gold, 11 masters,
40 million in prize money, and you guy's bitch about losing a match to a guy that is having a lights out stretch..
Get a grip, at the very least Andy makes your heart race every time he steps on to the court, and the thing is, you never know what's going to happen, that's good sport, that's what Andy gives us, win or lose.

Joe.. Sounds like you need a hug

Why ? I am just stating my opinion. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I don't see it. Every time since 2013 where he's got to face Fed or Djokovic in a slam he's been beat and usually rather convincingly after maybe winning a set (French Open 2015 aside, where he played his best RG match ever vs Novak, unsurprising with clay being his best surface this year) and especially that Fed meeting at Wimbledon this year where I don't think Andy even hd a bP?  He just can't challenge the top guys in Bo5 any more it seems, I am yet to see any evidence suggesting otherwise? Then there's been losses to Dimitrov and Anderson. Don't get me wrong Anderson played very well today and this loss is more excusable than the DImitrov one, but Andy of the past would never be losing to Anderson in a slam in my opinion.

Ah well, still been a great year for Andy. Davis Cup win would cap it off and maybe a WTF title too.

I think he lacked the belief that he could win, and who could honestly blame him.

I think his game has evolved since then.

He might not have won this match.. but you surely can't dispute Andy is constantly evolving?

So many negative comments on a Murray fan website. Blimey. He did push it to tiebreaks. How about slating that stinking court. Or maybe metamorphosising into a Djoker or Fed fan. Then life might become easier. I don't doubt for a second that Murray did his best. Yeah - and maybe he won't win another slam. Big deal. believe me I want murray to get his haul of slams as much as anyone else. But to start suggesting that he isn't doing his best really, really stinks.

Not meant to be.
Oh well, he has a few more days to recover from jetlag before Davis Cup.

I really don't get some of you guys on here.
You constantly preach that Andy will never win another game, set, match, etc.
Then when he does, there's always the 'BUT'.
'But, he's playing crappy,'
'But, he's playing a nobody.'
'But he won't win another.'
Then, when he proves you wrong, you're still not happy.
Why do you watch him, then?????
Yeah, Andy's got a weak second serve.
Do you think he doesn't know it?
Do you think he hasn't tried to improve it?
Do you think he loses on purpose?
Do you think he enjoys it?
Every professional male tennis player but two would love to be where Andy is.
SHEESH, it really gets old.

Well. Maybe it's because Ive been supporting him since the Aberdeen Cup back when he couldn't even grow a hair on his chin.

And I had the very sad experience of watching him be obliterated by Kevin in 2011.

doublebagel,

It is pathetic on MW when Andy loses. If I had his record as a sportsman I would expect to have some respect even when I lost. I am sure that Andy will recover from this upset. He will be bitterly disappointed as anyone would.  You will remember times when Novak and Federer lost unexpectedly. The belief didn't evaporate with their supporters. Andy now with second most wins this year on the tour is still massive.

Three wishes:

1) That Anderson beats Wawrinka
2) That Andy leads the Brits to beat Australia in the Davis Cup
3) That some on his site think before they post their ill considered, ill informed diatribes every time Andy loses a match. Thankfully that does not happen too often.

Loads and loads and loads of posts suggest that he should be doing better with this that and the other. that implies he's not doing his best.

I'm just so exhausted from these comments.  I haven't got a whole lot else to say right now.  Except, your wishes are good ones.  Important to look forward instead of wallowing I think.

saying he should be more aggressive is saying he's not doing his best? come on. constructive criticism is fine. it's a discussion board afterall, otherwise there would be no point any of us even being here. i understand people can be a bit overly negative during matches (myself included) which is just the nature of live sport; murray himself is guilty of this (towards himself and i'm sure as a fan he's felt the same). i don't see what's wrong with discussing him game afterwards however. regardless of all the fantastic records and accomplishments, and there are plenty, it's clear that he's not as strong in grand slams as he was in 2012 / 13. is that just due to the surgery or is it tactical reasons? this is something that's worth discussing, especially when he's just lost to a guy who he was 5-1 up against and had never made a slam quarter final.

DB,

Sleep well. It is not yet 8.00pm where I am so I will watch the Federer or Berdych matches. I hold no allegiances but would like to see some more upsets now that Andy is out.

If Andy is losing I do not follow MW during the match. I suggest it helps your sanity.
