US Open 2015 R4: Andy Murray vs Kevin Anderson

Quote

I heard Russell Fuller reckon Andy had already played too much tennis before the US Open.  It would be absolutely fantastic if we can beat the Aussies next weekend, as I was there in 2010 at Eastbourne when we beat Turkey.  Judy Murray helped our team to win, by spying on the Turkish players.  Five years later, we're looking at being seeded for next year's first round match.

Stell that was always my fear that he'd have an underlying tiredness coming into USO that would make it difficult for him to win,  He then had to fight his way through just about the toughest draw possible and much tougher than any of his main rivals, with a bad head cold.   He then comes up a guy playing the best tennis of his life on a court that Andy hates and that is particularly difficult when playing someone like KA.  To conclude from that, as some are doing, that he'll never win another slam is just stupid  doh   Probably the same people who were predicting Andy would retire not that long ago  Rolling Eyes
And given all those factors perhaps it's a hidden blessing that he won't be facing an in-form Fed yet again this week.  But it's still very sad that such a brilliant streak of getting to slam QFs is now ended

And before we start slitting our throats at Andy's future chances, the following players are older than Andy:
Anderson, Gasquet, Tsonga, Fed....obviously Wink Stan and Lopez

Had Andy somehow managed to get through that match last night he would be taken apart by Wawrinka. Andy has spent too much energy just getting to the fourth round with the possible line up of Stan, Fed and Dojkovic waiting for him. I just thought it was not going to happen this year. He should now concentrate on the Davis Cup, if GB won that cup this year it would be a major achievement, like the Olympic Gold for GB these are events that he can look back on after his career is finished with extreme pride, and every bit as great as his grand slam titles. In my book he has already won the two biggest grand slams.

Some of you make me sad.  Just really, really sad.  Frown

Don't pay any attention to them, db.    They know nowt.      It's Andy's career.    It's Andy's choice to do it his way.    He owes us nothing.    There are loads of other players these wimps can support.    There is only one Andy Murray.

Too true.    I know who to avoid on this forum.    I looked in the early hours while the match was on;  saw the preponderance of comments by certain losers;   switched the computer off and went back to supporting our boy.

I fear Davis Cup will prove to be a step too far. We're definitely punching above our weight, and the pressure on Andy will be immense.
Anyone know when the teams will be announced? Come on Team GB - everything's crossed for you.

Absolutely. There's basically zero chance of GB winning the Davis Cup, and that's not Murray's fault: it's the fault of the LTA and their utter disregard for the grassroots game.

What are you saying Boogers.  GB have every chance of winning the Davis Cup.  They are a great team all supportive of each other that makes a good team.  Andy will be fired up having over 10 days to re group.

I wish them all the best and I am sure they will get through.

Please do not be negative , they have not even started yet.

I think doing well in the DC will be extremely important to Andy - it's not about points or money for him, it's about smashing records and doing something for the first time.  Although on a playing level - it's a one man show (or two with Jamie in the doubles) I think behind the scenes each and every member of the team has a role and they are all obviusly very supportive of each other.  If they were to win it,I think Andy would be vindicated in his decision to notpariticpate fully in it as he has given it his all this year. I think the reception he will receive in Glasgow will be pheonomenal and will quicly repair some of the disapppintment he must be feeling after last night. Everything was against him - the draw, the schedule, the illness and then meeting someone that decided they would play the match of their lives.  He gave it everyting he physically could and left everything out there.
I too dropped in to the match thread and quickly dropped right out again - seeing the last 6/7 posters was enough to confirm that it was not a pleasent place to be.
Andy is a unique talent and one which will not be replicated anytime soon - he wont'win every match and yes it's dissapointing but the guy is a national hero and has a bank balance to fear,a beautfiul wife and a baby on the way - he has a life outwith tennis - unlike so many of the "brave keyboard warriers" on here !!!
Onwards and upwards Andy Murray - you'll be coming home to Scotland next week and that can only be a good thing.
