I think the DC SF is winnable. We need either the doubles team to pull their weight or Ward to perform one of his heroic performance again.
I fear relying on Andy for all 3 rubbers will be a bridge too far. Fingers' crossed

Perhaps they may not play Ward as he has not performed well in the last tournaments. I believe Kyle Edmunds may be summoned. They cannot rely on Andy playing all three rubbers all too much

Too true. I know who to avoid on this forum. I looked in the early hours while the match was on; saw the preponderance of comments by certain losers; switched the computer off and went back to supporting our boy.
Couldn't agree with you more, they start posting and I leave the thread.
Brilliant posting Murray Magic and IluvAndy!

Jamie Murray and Dom Inglot are both playing well at the moment. They nearly pulled off a win against the Bryans in March. It would be more of a team effort anyway if Andy could just take care of the singles.

I think doing well in the DC will be extremely important to Andy - it's not about points or money for him, it's about smashing records and doing something for the first time. Although on a playing level - it's a one man show (or two with Jamie in the doubles) I think behind the scenes each and every member of the team has a role and they are all obviusly very supportive of each other. If they were to win it,I think Andy would be vindicated in his decision to notpariticpate fully in it as he has given it his all this year. I think the reception he will receive in Glasgow will be pheonomenal and will quicly repair some of the disapppintment he must be feeling after last night. Everything was against him - the draw, the schedule, the illness and then meeting someone that decided they would play the match of their lives. He gave it everyting he physically could and left everything out there.
I too dropped in to the match thread and quickly dropped right out again - seeing the last 6/7 posters was enough to confirm that it was not a pleasent place to be.
Andy is a unique talent and one which will not be replicated anytime soon - he wont'win every match and yes it's dissapointing but the guy is a national hero and has a bank balance to fear,a beautfiul wife and a baby on the way - he has a life outwith tennis - unlike so many of the "brave keyboard warriers" on here !!!
Onwards and upwards Andy Murray - you'll be coming home to Scotland next week and that can only be a good thing.
Thank you for your terrific posts. I had a rather weird experience of Andy's match last night as my son and I had tickets for the night-time Ashe session at the Open that I bought from a friend of mine a few weeks ago. I was deeply disappointed that we weren't going to see Andy but since his match was an afternoon one I consoled myself with the thought that I could watch it on TV and it would all be over before I went to the stadium. Well, of course, they were still in the first set when I had to leave so my son tracked the score on my phone on the way. By the time we got to Flushing Meadow and were getting something to eat Andy was down 1-5 in the second! I watched him nearly get back to evens on the big screen, at which point we went into Ashe to watch Johanna Konta (eventually) lose to Kvitova. I fear I didn't give the women's match sufficient attention because I was madly following Andy's score on my phone, thrilled when he played a great tiebreak to take the third set and eventually crushed when he couldn't manage the same for the fourth.
So I followed the match at a close yet far remove and didn't see any of the stuff on MW for which I'm grateful going on what I've read towards the end here. What I want to say is this. It was completely clear from both the score of Andy's match and the constant roars and ripples of sound and cheering and gasps in Armstrong that were clearly audible when I was sitting next door in Ashe that some incredible tennis was being played, the tension was unbelievable, the players were playing their hearts out and the spectators were having a fantastic time. I longed to be there!
Meanwhile, over in Ashe, we were watching Konta try very hard but eventually be wiped out by a superior player who clearly decided halfway through the second set that she shouldn't be hanging around like this and raised her game to finish Konta off. It was okay but in the end suspense-free. Their match and Andy's ended around the same time (four hours and 18 minutes, longest of the tournament so far!). Out came Isner and Federer. Isner managed to hold his serve, Federer produced some amazing shots in holding his and we watched him win two sets in predictable tiebreaks. I turned to my son and said, "Would you mind if we went home? This is boring." He completely agreed. There was no heart, no suspense, no tension. It was just Federer being clinical and Isner not being good enough to respond to F's better shots.
The point being that our experience was entirely different from those watching Andy and Kevin Anderson. I agree. Andy isn't a robot, he can't play a cold, dull game, at least not on purpose, and he's had a long, tiring year. I can't believe how consistently great he is and how much he cares about what he does and how he does it. It is really true: you don't know what you've got till it's gone, and when he isn't a top player anymore we are going to miss that deeply. So let's embrace it while it's still here, good and bad. I'm not against criticism of Andy, I just don't like the implication that he's somehow suddenly rubbish because he can't obliterate every opponent every time. As others have said, what makes him so great is that he's so human. And I say three cheers and on to the Davis Cup.

I'm so glad this palce exists, it makes dealing with his losses a bit easier because we can all share the pain!
But when you get over the dissapointment, you realise that it's silly because Andy himself is feeling a hell of a lot worse. Reflecting back on the year, we've had ups and we've had downs. Only recently we had his Montreal win over Djokovic for example.
I just want him to win another slam more than anything though, he deserves to win at least 1 Australian open, maybe next year?

The saddest thing for me is Andy losing his sequence of reaching QFs of Slams. He's already in the top ten of all time with 18 in a row. For that sequence to have been broken last night is painful. He must be hurting badly. And the chances of any of us witnessing another sequence like that from any British player in our lifetimes is zero.

Andy is getting shafted with draws at the moment, whereas Novak's are a joke. He's yet to play Kyrgios for example. Fed's are a bit of a shambles, and don't even get me started on Wawrinka's draw. Hopefully Andy's draws in the future aren't so harsh but this USO has been quite competitive with most players struggling. Only Federer is managing to win in straights.

Yes, you are right Gnome, his draws have been ghastly,
Perhaps the next Slam in Australia will be kind to him before his baby is born that would be a great Slam for him!!

Another I heard from the comms yesterday was that the heat and the court Andy was on, suited Anderson, and that Fed probably asking for an evening match played to his strengths and they were surprised they didn't give an afternoon match to Isner. Having heard that has made me wonder what would have been the results if Andy and Anderson had played on Ashe in the night match and Fed and Isner on Armstrong in the afternoon.
In one way I'm glad that Andy can go home have a bit of a rest before getting ready for the Davis Cup.

The general crapness of British tennis and the LTA have really harmed Andy's career.
First of all the ridiculous pressure on our one top player over many years.
Then more recently the Davis cup. Credit to Andys' heroism but it was a real worry when he had to dig out that third match in a row last time. Going beyond yourself like that is like writing a big cheque that you'll pay for before long, and can make you more prone to illness.
Alas I can see him being asked to do it again.

This was what i mean with Andy. For a guy who continually states that he's feeling calmer and more relaxed lately, this clip kind of goeas agaisnt that. I mean, i don't know who he's directing his rant to but near the end, he's going on about someone never asking questions and they are a c**k.
Beware, this is x rated stuff and pretty sad to see

^^ Wow. That is some rant. Disappointing that the psychiatrist doesn't seem to be helping him control it much - unless he's telling him to let it all out.
Hope Bjorkman can handle it.

I agree, it was a brilliant posting from Murray Magic (the one a few pages earlier).
This match was disappointing for many reason for me. Especially the fact that he reverted back to his old body language in this match. He was very sarcastic and more often than I'm sure he could accept, looked like "Whatever...". Even if it's not true at all I agree with Wilander and other commies : this behavior doesn't help him at all.
And then comes the serve. We know that... The fact that Andy loses when it comes to big/expert/in form servers (Fed at Wimbledon, Kevin here in NY) - without a high FS% - speaks for itself.
That said, I'm so proud of Andy.
I've stopped watching and went to bed at the end of the 3rd. From the end of the 2nd set the way he fought and fought again so desperatly gave me goose bumps.
It's the second time in slams this year that Andy fall against a player who's found a tennis from outerspace and THAT bugs me !
But everytime he fights. Some people may think the opposite, he fights. With all he's got. And if it's not enough now he will have more.
I agree DC will be determining for a confidence boost if GB wins it. So come on !
Andy will win 3, 4 or more GS until the end of his carreer. It's just impossible with this amount of talent, fighting spirit and dedication that it will be otherwise.
Finally, someone - I don't remember who sorry - says that he/she will be gutted to see Stan with 3 GS titles before Andy. I disagree. First because I like Stan and he deserves it. Second, because for me Andy and Stan are in the same position. They are two warriors, fighting against the era of Nole, Fed or Rafa. It took Stan a lot more time than Andy to get where he is now.
And concerning this defeat, I think for Andy about the same advice Stan give to himself from his tattoo : "Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better."
