Thanks for opening this thread ATL.  The match is first on Arthur Ashe at 12 pm EST, 5 pm BST.  This will be the first meeting between the two players.  Nishioka is currently ranked No. 48 and could be a bit rusty as he hasn't played any matches since February.  Andy is the bookies' favourite to win, possibly in 3 or 4, so let's hope he can find the form which saw him defeat Tiafoe and Zverev.

You just don't know what to expect from this tournament. Covid has to be a leveler because so many players will be relatively rusty. One match at a time for Andy but if he's still in the tournament next week then who knows.

Having watched Cameron Norrie vs Diego Schwartzman. the No.9 seed, I agree with you.  The match went to five sets, with an incredible fight-back by Cameron from 2 sets down, by which time Diego was starting to seriously struggle because his legs were cramping so much while Cameron was still going strong, but then Diego hasn't played for months apart from two matches at the Western & Southern, while Cameron had the benefit of all his matches in the UK as well as playing last week - so (leaving Andy out of it) it'll be interesting to see if this lack of physical fitness, added to lack of match practice, is a pattern in the men's matches, particularly in the early rounds, if they go much beyond a third set.

It is so hot and humid in New York and the players are dripping with sweat.  Isner served 49 aces and lost today,  Johnson played well and moved on.  So good Luck Andy, here's to your serve working and your returns hitting the lines.  Sending you a bunch of good vibes....
