Great job—and apparently Andy's 200th match win in slams!

Wow, this match has had it all! racket abuse, near terminal injury, underarm serves, failed video reviews! Double faults on match point too...
Definitely not short on drama!  Just glad Andy came through unscathed.

Ugh, Dimitrov was two sets down, 2-5 down in the 5th, faced match point at 4-5 but is now 2-0 up in the 5th set tiebreak.

Good stuff from Andy. Didn’t get too distracted by Moutet’s shenanigans. Respectfully inquired how he was at net. But hinted at his distractions during on court interview.
Does anyone know when he last one a match in straight sets? It feels like an age.

Defeated Lorenzo Sonego in straights in Toronto, so not that long ago!

Molcan won the TB 9-7.

Sorry, Aileen. It is Dimi, who had to come back multiple times in his match. A long, tight affair. I hope it helps Andy in R2.

OMG Aileen… I was there in person !!!

I think I was so happy to see him in so long, the scoreline didn’t matter, he won and that was that!

Thanks for reminding me haha!

My apologies.  Looked quickly at the score and got it wrong!

Overall, Andy‘s game was in a good place: he came forward a lot, played pro-actively, BH and FH fired. The only issue was the BP-conversion. But at least he created plenty of chances.

Thanks Apollo, Andy got quite emotional there at the end.

I like this stat. he needs just 23 more wins to overtake Ivan Lendl. I dare say that he might enjoy that?  Could do that in three years?  Two more wins on top of those and he would relegate Agassi in the list and be the fifth most successful slam player. The much overlooked 'great player' at fourth is Jimmy Connors whilst the top three are those we know well.  The top four all have over 300 wins!

Added:  I really enjoyed that match. More relieved because it was an easy one to lose but generally he seemed to stick to his plan. Thinking of R2 some matches against Dimitrov have history but I note that his H2H is still positive but their last match was at US Open as long ago as 2016.
