I wouldn't say that Verdasco is the world's greatest drop-shotter. More the brutal rally type.
I agree with that, which is probably equally unfortunate for Andy at this stage.

I've already used up my prime trial. Anyone trust me with their Amazon login? Hahaha.

good result, back in slam action - thought he'd have to do it in 3 but enough in the tank to do it in 4

I agree three would have been preferable, particularly in that heat and humidity, but the fact that he won is good enough for me. How he'll get on against Verdasco though is another story but at least he has a day in which to recover.

A good win for Andy, all things considered. Whilst he is still hobbling around the court between points...it didn't look as pronounced, to me, as did in the last comp and prior to that. He looked like he was physically in better shape.. It took him a while to get into it...but then all these years watching Andy's very own rollercoaster rides ....it felt familiar. I have he feeling he can get himself back challenging slams ...but can't see it till next year. His timing and range aren't there yet. He also has lost power in his shots....possibly down to lack of hip rotation. If he is going to play tennis chess he'll need to find his timing and range. I don't think Andy is going to change how he plays...he is a counter puncher...always has been ...his 'weapons' have been strategy and physicality. Its just that he'll need his physicality back to do that...hopefully he gets himself moving freely. In amongst the mediocrity today....and lot of the tennis in the match was definitely that....there were flashes of the great player he was and is. Consistency and improvement are what im hoping for in this Usopen from Andy. Hopefully at the next Australian open we see him right back in the mix.

But I’d rather he play a player he’s played before then someone he has to figure out from the beginning.

hobbling? Seems like people are looking for something that isn't there. He looked fine to me.

Same here Big Nose, and nor did my comms mention anything about him hobbling, something they would have normally done if he was.

Fair enough but Andy has always had a sort of slightly wonky walk on court for years, so that's why I'm not reading anything into what you or your comms said.

The Brits are dropping like flies. Andy could be the last one standing at this rate. One more win will do it.
