US Open R2: Andy Murray vs Grigor Dimitrov

Sadly, this reminds me of their Wimbledon 2014 match.

So sad. Had Andy held serve the score would have been different.   If Andy wants to keep playing he’s gotta be consistent on his serves and not have to keep fighting to come back. He got beat today, but he beat himself as well. I love Andy, very sad for him. Enjoy your family and the Hamptons Andy, and do some serious thinking about your tennis.

Is it still due to his ab issue which did not allow him to practise his serve properly?
This USO has already seen so many prolific players going out in R1 and R2: Rune, Ruud, Tsitsipas, Hurkacz… Hardly consoling though.

I was working and couldn't watch. Terribly disappointing score, so unlike him. Feel very bad for him.

It did me too.

Let us face it, Grigor was playing well again. In those last few games there were some wonderful returns. No shame to lose to a top twenty seed.

My immediate reaction was that Andy needed more power. Good build-ups but no unreturnable finishing shots. Grigor was retrieving like an Andy. It could have been partly due to reticence in his physical effort after the abdomen strain which must still be a worry.

Andy looked stiff in practice - his whole body appeared to be affected.
Almost as if the abdominal strain, or maybe the fear of it returning, had tensed him up.  He seemed uneasy physically, mentally and emotionally.  Dimitrov, Vallverdu and Delgado had done their homework and knowing Andy so well were able to take full advantage.  Andy still managed to produce some magical moments but we all knew the
Legendary Murray Comeback wasn't going to happen on this occasion.  The serve was
clearly diminished and his overall performance was a shadow of what we've come to expect.  The crowd was great, like us they craved yet another fairytale in New York that only Andy at his best can produce.  He takes us with him every step of the way and his presence in this fabulous tournament will be hugely missed.

I see that Andy is now scheduled to play in Zhuhai, China.  Is he now likely to play? It is three weeks away so enough time to enjoy his family and get them home and prepare. I would do that and as a determined competitor feel that he might still do that. Thoughts, or knowledge, please.
