US Open R3: Andy Murray vs Matteo Berrettini

Quote

For the second time in two months Andy now plays the big-serving world No. 14 Matteo Berrettini, who himself had to fight back from a set down against lucky loser Hugo Grenier in round 2.  Berrettini, who reached a career high of No. 6 earlier this year, was forced to miss the clay court season due to a hand injury, then on his return to the Tour went on to win the Stuttgart Open (defeating an injury compromised Andy 4-6, 7-5, 3-6) before going on to defend his title at Queens.  A bout of covid saw him miss Wimbledon.  He then participated in the Swiss Open in Gstaad where he reached the final, losing to Casper Ruud in three sets.  He exited both the Canadian Open and Cincinnati in round 1, losing to Pablo Carreno Busta and Felix Auger-Aliassime respectively.  Berrettini though has a decent record at Flushing Meadows.  Since losing to Denis Kudla in round 1 on his tournament debut in 2018, he has made the second week of all three of his other visits so no doubt will be keen to do the same this year.

Andy first on Arthur Ashe tomorrow, so 5:00 pm BST, which is very nice for us but means Andy playing in the hottest part of the day for the third match running, but then how schedulers work these matches has always been a mystery to me!

Unfortunately I think if you start out playing in the morning they usually keep you on the same or same-ish schedule, at least for the first week.

^ I suppose that does make some sense if you think about recovery times.  Strange thing though is that the British men have all had to play during the day, yet the women play in the evening!

It's 4 pm according to live scores.

Doesn't matter what live scores say - matches on AA all start at 12 pm EDT, therefore 5 pm BST, and if you don't believe me then look at the USO website.

ESPN stated that Andy's match does indeed begin at noon, EST.
Also, here in the USA, noon is not the hottest part of the day.
4:00P is usually the hottest.
Since we are on daylight savings time, it is actually 11:00A here, sun time!
One blessing is that the high humidity here on the east coast has dropped so that is good news for both players.

Good Luck today Andy boy!!  You know Berrettini's  game and you know what you have to do to beat him, so believe in yourself and go out and do it.  Lendl has faith in you, we all have faith in you, and we are sending loads of good vibes to you.  Love you Andy, you can do this!!!!

By the way, the weather in NYC today could hardly be nicer. At the moment it's only 71F (21C), not supposed to get hotter than 77F (25C) and the humidity has simply disappeared. It feels really fresh outside right now.

Must be hard to play with the shadows on the court.
