The whole crowd will be timing Tsitsipas if he goes for a toilet break tonight!

I hope they boo him if he takes too long!

Solution for lengthy bathroom breaks needs to be addressed.1. Give sliding hard time limit depending on distance to bathroom. Main court-outside court? 2. Not back in time-point penalty or opponent gets to talk to coach in the overtime. That should curb excessive timeout.

That is  a good idea.

Trouble is that gamesmanship provokes tougher rules, but then in future there will probably be cases where players genuinely need the time and will lose out.

True, but so far Tsitsipas seems to be the only player who's doing this, and on a regular basis - and that's mainly what needs to be stopped.

Quite a lot of players are now joining in this criticism of the Greek.

I am pleased that Andy had the resolve to not soften his views after a night to consider his views expressed on the night. Many players use their own techniques to influence how their opponents play in a host of ways. Nadal and Djokovic are probably the most obvious amongst those that use unsportsmanlike tactics.

I liked the comment that Tiafoe took less than two minutes for each of his two breaks to change wet clothes etc. when playing on the same court.

Courts are located at different distances from toilet facilities so an umpire, in my opinion, should advise of a maximum time for such visits at the toss. If the visit is likely to take longer then the player should advise the umpire on expected time required so there is latitude if the request is allowed.  At least then the opponent will be aware of a the length of time the play will be delayed.  Penalties for taking too long should then be adopted.

Well done Andy for your actions.

I liked it too, and even if you add using the facilities as well then it shouldn't take that much longer.

However as Tsitsipas has been accused by Zverev of using his phone to get coaching advice, something which Chris Evert said is a possibility, then it might be a good idea if a security guard had a quick look through the player's clothing before they go off court to make sure that something like this is not among them.

Right now, Manarino just won a set - and  now Tsitsip is back in the loo!

And he took just under seven minutes as well which is ridiculous because he looked as though he was only carrying shoes and socks in that plastic bag, although I suppose there could have been shorts in there too, but even so!

Very gratifying to hear some booing though when he came back on court.

Yes I do remember you.

Anyway I see Tsitipas's tactics worked because he won the fourth set 6-0!

I used to like Tsistipee till all this started.... added to the extensive toilet breaks, he has a lot of coaching violations, too! That is not sportsmanship!

I did as well, and now he's defending his actions.  While I can understand what he's talking about, he obviously doesn't know the meaning of sportsmanship, because if every player took as long as they felt they needed to change their clothes and make themselves comfortable when they're hot and sweaty then they would always have an advantage over their opponent as well as prolonging matches unnecessarily.

PS: This bathroom break debate first started during Wimbledon in 2014, and it's quite an eye-opener as well!  Also I have once seen an umpire take such a break.  I can't remember the year or who was playing but it was the US Open, and at 2 sets apiece both players went off, and the umpire joined them.

Well, I imagine that they have needs, too! Though I have to admit I am giggling at the notion of the three of them in the loo at the same time!
