Hi all
my first post. Been watching tennis since in the womb, though.
As someone who collected her Davis cup tix yesterday, what will happen with the Davis Cup if the US Open runs into the middle of next week? 3 of our GB team are stuck out there. Haven't come across a situation like this before.

The USO is unlikely to still be going on past Wednesday, which gives two clear days before DC matches. Captains will jump up and down and complain about restricted practice sessions etc., but s**t happens. It's unthinkable that the USO would be cancelled. That just won't happen. Too much cash is tied up in it from sponsors, among other things.

I should say, this will be my 3rd 3am wake up call on the trot - I hope some wind blows the rain out into the ocean/sea (I can't remember which it is).
Ditto, Bev. Though tonight I am seriously considering not bothering my bum to set the alarm clock! Interest is rapidly decreasing!!

Oh agreed, I didn't think the USO would be cancelled, as you say, too much money involved. And let's hope it finishes in time for them all to fly home! Just wondered if the DC team would have to find other players if for any reason, those involved in USO couldn't get back (let's think positively here, and hope they're all involved at the bitter end!) or if James Ward and Jamie Baker would have to play all the DC matches.

What a farce. The conditions are unplayable and why should the players be forced to go out in the rain and play in such conditions. Andy's first game was on a week past Wednesday whilst the rest started on the latest on Tuesday. The way this tournament is run is terrible, as Rafa,Andy and Roddick have said they could'nt give a toss about the players just that they are losing MONEY. If they want to continue to hold it in New York a lot of changes need to be made, like a ROOF over one of the courts and changing the schedules
to a more realistic option. How come Mr Smug and Nole are given preferential treatment all the seeded player should be treated equally. TIME FOR SOME URGENTLY NEEDED CHANGES. All that seems to be important to the ITF is the MONEY to be made from the US Open.

Nadal, Federer and Djokovic are all also involved in DC matches this weekend. Nadal and Djokovic in the semi-finals in Spain and Serbia respectively and Federer in the World Group play off in Australia. If you think of the time zones involved it will not be easy for any of them especially when you take jet lag into consideration.

I do think money was the reason for putting the players out yesterday when the courts were unplayable. Looking at the US Open site it would seem that if play is cancelled they have to refund the ticket money but if there is any play at all tickets are no longer refundable. If less than an hour and a half is played tickets can be exchanged for another day, if they are available, or next year if not. I don't think the organisers fancied refunding ticket holders money two days running.

Well Alis, I think you've hit the nail on the head! Money again! And if they think they can pull in more money by giving the viewing public the final they most want to see, then they can't 'guarantee' anything of course, but they'll still do their darndest to make it happen!

Not looking good for early start - lots of reports of flooding - roads closed in NY. Cornell University closed due to local flooding.
