Washington R3: Andy Murray vs Taylor Fritz

To be honest I'm not sure how much Andy had left in the tank after that - and Thompson's going to be daisy fresh having sailed through his match in two.

I think he will be angry that he couldn’t break when he had  0-40.

A shame as Andy just lost his way at 4-4.

Whoever wins I always hate it when a match is lost rather than won. I thought that was the case in that last set.

However playing that well Andy will not be short of invites to play?

That was quite surprising really

This terrible game after 4:4! Then he unexpectedly generated 3 BP chances in a row, was not fortunate. And in the last three games Fritz showed why he is top 10. His service (17 aces) helped him big time.
Still, Andy played a very good match, was aggressive, did some magic, fought until the very last point. He must be fed up with only coming close and not getting over the line against the big boys.

He definitely will.

He's already entered for Toronto (which starts on Monday),  Cincinnati and the USO.

Awesome how much support he receives even when playing against Americans.

Well, Andy was the fifteenth seed in Washington, so he'll be in the draw for the Rogers Cup and for Cincinnati, I would think. Presumably the whole point of being here is a push to get seeded at the US Open.

You know it’s good I live by myself as my family would put me in a home for the crazy, I do so much yelling during Andy’s matches. Haha

Back in the Sampras days I went to Toronto to see him play. It’s a nice tournament, won’t be so humid.  Cincy I had season tickets to. It’s not so humid but really hot. There’s Kings Island an amusement park across the highway and a golf course right there at the venue. Many players would bring in their clubs and play golf on their off days. I wish I had the time and money to go to Cincy to see Andy play live.

In Toronto, he's playing Lorenzo Sonego with a possible second round match against Felix Auger Aliassime or a qualifier.  In the live rankings Sonego is 39 and Murray is 40.

What a chance to get a win against a Top 10 player that was tonight.  Back to back tournaments where he's let Tsitsipas and now Fritz comeback and win when he had very good/great positions in both matches.

8 sets of Tennis and Murray broke twice in those matches, first game of the 3rd set against Tsitsipas and in the 10th game of the first set tonight.  That's ultimately why he's lost both in my view, not enough key return points being won.  Not getting the break in the 4th set against Tsitsipas at 4-4 and not getting 4-2 up tonight in the 3rd set or not breaking back for 5-5.

I don't think Tsitsipas would have won if that dratted curfew hadn't been in place.  Andy was on fire and so was the crowd while Tsitsipas was visibly tiring and starting to play erratically.

As for Toronto at least he's got the time now to get himself up there and acclimatise to conditions.
