What can Murray achieve to keep him motivated?

As he's got close to no motivation if he doesn't believe he can win a Slam final.

Winning the other tournies and getting as close to the No1 spot as possible, which I do really think he can do, even without winning a GS. He's quite good at getting to the finals!

I agree: winning other tournaments, beating other top 10 players, when he visibly sees improvement in his own game, find a great coach, know that his fans still love him no matter what. Andy has to toughen it out again, because he's going to be brutally criticized by haters and some fans alike. He says he's mentally prepared but he's not completely, and maybe he'll recognize that this time.

It's one step at a time. He failed again at the AO, but if he can go back to the beginning, mentally and physically, then he'll be able to do it in the end. Who knows, Wimbledon might be shocker.

Besides, hearing the crowd at RLA makes me think Andy's fans still love him just as much. I know I still believe in him.

And how long can he keep winning MS/losing Slam finals not winning a set/winning multiple MM's before he gives up?

^He won't give up he's only 23 for Chr**sake. OK he has lost 3 GS finals but his time WILL come, we and he will just have to be patient. Do you think that he wont be interested in getting to the no.1 spot?
Anyway what's he going to do if he doesn't play tennis....don't think he's ready for the tennis academy charity career just yet...

He's at the age when former Slam winning multi Slam finalists have made there last Slam final's of there careers. 23.75 really isn't that young in Tennis years for certain players with a similar playing style to Murray.

He hasn't had the chance to ponder it knowing his chances of winning a Slam are remote before...

Once he's got over this he'll work harder than ever to win a GS - that will remain his motivation. After all Agassi lost 3 before he won one and apparently Lendl lost even more.  I just hope he can re-find his motivation quickly unlike last year.  I think this will have taught him he has to improve even more.  I don't think ultimately Nole has more talent than Andy and I'm sure Andy doesn't believe he has - so there's another possible motivation perhaps: to prove he can again beat his friend and rival in a big match and overtake him in the rankings.

Andy Murray has no right to be the best player in the world or even be good enough to win a grand slam. He is on the brink of greatness, and in fact there are a number of stats we could look at that would show him to be the 'best' player never to win one if he does not manage it in his career.

This is a time for a cool head, learning from mistakes, building determination and rising up to greater levels than before. And this applies to Murray and, by the look of it, some people on this board. (Except Ruthie, but especially the 'poisoncoater' clydey)

I believe he'll do it, as I always have done and so mentioned on this board years ago. I wouldnt mind if it was just once, and perhaps at Wimbledon. Onwards and upwards  w00t

I really don't know why we have to KEEP rattling on and comparing Andy with other players of the same age etc., etc., he is an individual and unique in MORE ways than one, as we are seeing right now! Everyone is different, thank god, and develop at their own pace.

One way to stop this from happening is to get out and get himself a new coach, PDQ, and get motivated for the rest of the season....there are still 2 GS's to go (I've discounted the French)!

What mistakes did he make that he is capeable of correcting?

Totally agree and those of us who really understand the game and Andy know that Andy will work even harder and will win, win, win. I dispair of the negative brigade.

I personally didnt have much faith in Andy to win this today, so I don't blame him for any of his errors in the match itself. Im sure he prepared well, but I just didnt feel he had the form to win it.

Whatever mistakes he's made to find himself out of form he should examine, so that perhaps he peaks at the right moment in the future. The major 'mistake' he can rectify is how he reacted last year in similar circumstances (although I thought his performance in last year's final was far far less forgivable and perhaps it took him a while to forgive himself!).

I have a positive instinct that he will eventually benefit from what happened today.

Probably nothing. If, as he said in his presser, he's enjoying life outside of his tennis and he truly believes he won't win a slam, then he'll just fade away over the course of 18 months of so and retire.

Not coping very well!  As you can see, lots of really negative comments on MW  but some of us are trying to keep our spirits up and keep the faith.
And the idea that Andy will simply fade away and retire is just laughable.  He's known to be one of the hardest working players on the tour.  Knowing him he'll work even harder once he's got over the disappointment,
