Will Andy Murray ever be no1 in the world?

if he got injured before a slam (fed i mean) it would know many points from his total... especially if he missed two in one year.... nadal could be number 1 if that happened....

nah No, I beg to differ: Federer currently has 7295 points - 1000 for 3 of the Slams, 700 for the French. If he would miss 2 (and the 2 that are closest are the French and Wimby, so 1700 points) he would still be above Nadal (4625 points), even if you factor in Halle (225 points) which he plays between the 2, and if you give Nadal full points for both, which is not sure, as other people would be contenders for Wimby... like Roddick or Hewitt (unfortunately).

Federer is in a different league from anyone - even Nadal! Nadal is clearly best of the rest, and in a league of his own behind Fed, but not up there with Federer at the moment.

well... slams was just a general way of describing fed losing tons of points... it would of course depend on how long he was injured and how many slams he missed... say fed missed the wimbly, the US open series, and the USO? it would seriously cut into his points... and then the build-up after injury? fed could lose to several people in the top 20 between the injury and his first title back..... besides the fact that he could even decide to come back only when he was ABSOLUTELY ready... in which case he could be out for 4 or 5 months... i wasnt saying that he would definately fall to number 2 in the world if he were injured and missed two slams... just basically that an injury would seriously screw him up...

I don't think It's a very good way to become number one though, could you imagine the winkapedia years from now:

Rafael Nadal, Surpassed Vilas's record on clay winning a massive 112 matches in a row on clay, won 4 RG in a row, also won wimbledon and US open in 2008 and therefore achieved his lifelong dream of becoming World no 1. In 2008, all time tennis great and legend Rodger Federer was out with a knee injury (linky thing to Fed's page all about the horrific skydiving experience that went terriably wrong) from June to October, missing out on the end of year masters cup which was, incidentally won by Britain's own Andy Murray.

More likely that Fed would have torn ligaments whilst feeding his cows. lol

Lol. I hope that will never going to happen. I rather have Roger Federer fit and stay World No 1 than Nadal gets it through Federer's injury. Besides he is my favourite player outside Britian.

David, I agree, if he's out for long enough, and Nadal stays healthy during that time, he will eventually slip back to no 2 - but so would anyone else. My point was: it will take quite a bit of time - more than 2 GS.

But I hope that will not happen, and whoever takes the no 1 off him will do it by merit rather than through injury...
