Wimbledon 2016 Final: Andy Murray vs Milos Raonic

Quote

Anyone else getting butterflies about tomorrow already? Watching the women's final has started me off.   Serena lost in Australian and French Open.  Let's hope Andy can repeat her success at Wimbledon tomorrow.

Raonic has improved so much in the last few months although I think Andy would have done as well against Federer. Nevertheless he is a formidable force and Andy will have to be on best form to take the title. It was a battle at Queens and will be an even bigger one here which I hope he wins.

Me!  In fact I think I'd feel a little better if he was playing Fed or even Djoko, although I'm not quite sure why.  Perhaps it's because Raonic is a bit of an unknown quantity when it comes to Slam finals.  Also he's going to be really up for this, particularly as he'll be making his own piece of history should he win.

I think the expectation has something to do with it as well, everyone is expecting Andy to win. In every other slam final Andy has been the underdog, so we aren't really used to this feeling.

I know what you mean.  Raonic is certainly confident.  My husband and son are away, which means I can rant and rave at the TV as much as I like!

Interesting to hear Serena say there was no more pressure coming into Wimbledon but came in with determination: 'I have to win. There's no other option'.

Bit like Andy's 'There's no way I'm losing' attitude.

Andy like Serena reached finals in Melbourne and Paris, and has again at Wimbledon. This time she has won, hopefully the same result for Andy tomorrow.

I see Raonic has tweeted something like "I'm by no means done yet!"   Fighting talk.   Come on Andy!

That's good!  I live on my own anyway, so no problems there.

Fingers crossed!

Well Andy has just said on TV that he knows what he has to do to win.  Also he had that 'I am determined' look on his face, so cmon yeah

PS - Andy doesn't need to hype himself up on Twitter anyway!

Agree Aileen.   It is just not his style.  I think he said he stays away from Twitter anyway,  during a tournament.

I would like it better if he were playing Fed but not Novak. I expect Andy to win in 3 or 4, though as some contributors have already stated Raonic seems to have improved dramatically this year. I thought Andy did not get started against Songa until the 5th set, whereas he seemed focused throughout on Friday. If Andy plays his best tennis he will win, anything less and it could be another long day. He deserves to win this, if Novak were not around Andy would have 7-8 slams by now.

No indeed, or he'd be out of the tournament.  Although I've gone for Andy in 4, I won't be surprised if he blitzes it in 3 because he has a lot of angst about previously always meeting a top ranked player in Slam Finals to get out of his system. But good for Raonic - credit for improving his game in the way he has.

I really think Andy needed that wake-up call in the Tsonga match because until then the tournament had been a bit too easy for him, and Andy will always rise to a challenge particularly when his back's against the wall.  Berdych may not have been quite the challenge a lot of people were expecting, but then I think Andy made sure of that from the off.

I've little doubt either than Andy would have won more Slams without Djokovic around, but, again, maybe he might have done anyway had it not been for the fact that it took him at least a year to fully get over his back op, meanwhile, as he says himself, Djokovic continued to improve.
