Quote

I need someone to put me too sleep.  Seriously.. someone sing me a lullaby .. I'm way too nervous  nervous  I'm basically sitting on my bed... hoping and praying... rolling around   like I have ants in my pants . wtf is wrong with me.   I will be wearing this Tshirt tomrrow  lol  lmao

Love the tee shirt, can totally relate!!!  Tried to stay busy today because my stomach has been in a flutter, not hungry just thinking and thinking.  I too will be praying for Andy to have courage and faith in himself.  I hope he is feeling better than I am.

I think this article is really lovely.  I'm glad Andy is still so close to his parents despite their divorce.

Andy Murray's father: my pride at his Wimbledon success  [Telegraph online, 7 July]

Judy Murray, with her maternal exhortations from the players’ guest box and regular television appearances, has become almost as recognisable as her son.

Andy Murray’s father, on the other hand, has steered clear of a public spotlight that has grown brighter with every victory.

Yesterday, Will Murray broke his Wimbledon silence, praising his son’s achievement in becoming the first British player to reach the men’s final in 74 years, while urging him to go all the way and win the tournament.

Mr Murray, who has been a regular presence in the players’ guest box over the past fortnight, spoke of his pleasure after his son beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semi-finals, but warned that the job was still to be finished.

“I can’t tell you the pride a father feels on seeing his son go into the final of Wimbledon,” he said, “It is something a lot of people have waited for and Andy has done it now.

“But he has to be prepared. The job is only half done and he will know he will have to be at his very best.

“When he looks to the other side of the net, he will see Roger Federer, who has won the title six times. So Andy will have to be ready.

“Getting to the final will mean a lot to him, but he will know that there is still one more match to win.

“But I am extremely excited and proud of him.  We will celebrate after the match together.”

And in the same article, a comment from David Perry -

The son of Fred Perry ... urged Murray to match his father’s success.

David Perry, who lives in Arizona in the US, said yesterday: “I think my father would be proud that finally someone’s come along who’s good enough to take a shot at it. Dad would have said: 'It’s been 76 years, it’s time for somebody else to get there.’”

Thanks Aileen for posting this, it gave me goosebumps.

Good luck to Andy this afternoon and I hope everyone here enjoys the match. Unfortunately I will probably not find out the result till late evening due to being on a flight home, but my mum has tickets for Centre Court so I will be there in spirit.

Have a great day everyone, and may Andy win !!!

Good luck, Andy. That's all I can really say without going into weepy hysterics.

Good luck to all of us, who will be undoubtedly having the nerves of our lives later. I hope Andy can hold on to his.

OK Andy.......Lots of pressure on you today, but try not to let it get to you too much. After all, you are the 'underdog' here and are 'not expected' to win. That puts more pressure on Fed! Just bear in mind though, that 'you have beaten him' more times than he has beaten you! Fed, being Fed, will have forgotten that! Do you think you can go out there today and give him a wee reminder of how things 'really' are son? 'Course you can! Go kick his ass! C'MON...... cmon yeah

Andy has earned some luck......Fed has had his fair share already (not that I would wish anyone ill) so yes, may the force be with Andy today.

I am trying to think that if not this time, he is getting nearer and it WILL happen sooner or later.

Hope Andy will finally manage to take this trophy, after all he's been through and the pain and hardwork he faced...and last but not least - all you British people deserve it! Fed should be merciful Wink

Jesus even Neil Harman is nervous!  Just got 5live on and there's going to be a recorded interview with Andy reflecting on his career.
Someone asked about court 2 - yes they'll be showing on a screen there I heard,
I can't allow myself even to think what it would mean for Andy to win.  As I've said before I just hope he does himself justice so even if he loses he can lose with pride.   Though the thought of Fed smirking after a victory just makes me feel physically sick.

Yes I was trying to be nice in my earlier post but I feel the same and will not be watching if that happens.  Also the media hype about the genius of Fed and how much he has done for the sport blah blah....

I do hope Tim is supporting Andy this year - I'm sure he will be but he and Fed were always big buddies on the tour.

I have recorded the match, and will probably be out when it is on. Think it is best to try and keep away from this site for the duration, or the news. Trouble is smart phones make it to easy to keep having a little check.

I think the key points are, the dramatic improvement in his attitude mentally this tournament - particularly the keeping calm and not letting it get to him, when he loses a game or set. Think how little muttering, shouting or grimacing we have had compared with only a few tournaments ago.  The second is Lendl, who he didn't have at his side in his other finals. They won't just have been preparing for this moment since the start of this tournament, but for the past 6 months, because they knew it would come. So it is not just a case of Lendl and his team only having the short time since Fridays victory to prepare for today.

The final point is that whatever Daily Mail cretins say, Fed has had a stroll into this final. The only player of real note he had was DJ, who has been out of sorts in this tournament. Yes Fed beat the world no 1 in the semi, but is wasn't the world number 1 on top form or anywhere near it. Murray has had to battle both the players ranked 5 and 6 in the world.

It is either going to be a case of Fed has more in the tank left, because he hadn't had a real challenge so far, or he hasn't had to produce the stamina needed yet. Has he still got it in reserve? Fed is 31 and has played 6 matches, mainly against players in total awe of his "greatness" our man is younger and fitter, and is in the groove of fighting. The people he has played so far didn't roll over to Murray. He had to hang in there and beat them by, skill and fitness.

If Murray can keep Fed running, the march of time might determine the outcome for us.

A rout would disappoint me, but I can't see how we would get that, all the signs of the last 6 months are pointing in a different direction. Fed's greater experience and mind games might win the day, but now Murray has Lendl and his experience with mind games.

If it goes to 5 my money would be on Murray. Andy must be under tremendous pressure, but he has been there before, and this prize this time is a very special one - a smile from Mr Lendl at the end of the match...!!! He isn't working in isolation likes he was for the last 3 finals, lets not forget that. I think it is a crucial difference. Is his hunger great enough?

He can do it, he might do it, but if he doesn't this time, he will soon. If he doesn't manage it today, like most people, the prospect of Fed crowing, will make me want to throw up. I wonder if he has got another tasteless jacket to bring out. Murray has already managed to break the 74 year wait for a Wimbledon finalist for the UK. We want victory, probably not as much as Andy, but please, please don't forget how we were all thinking it would be  enough if he matched last years points, just a few days ago. Try to keep the abuse to a minimum today. Andy Murray doesn't deserve or warrant any abuse at all today from anyone.

Regardless this tournament has had a "funny" feel from the start. The fates will indeed be cruel, to do that to us all without delivering the goods in the end.  Good luck to Mr Murray.
There we go a nice incoherent ramble for you all.

I'm watching Sky Sport and its just amazing how thousands of people up and down the country have got behind him. They are camping out and soaking wet at SW19 and putting up marquees to be together.

Even Sky News team have stopped heckling him and have their Andy masks and hats on!
Usually they dont say anything negative about his tennis (because there isnt anything to say), but resort to criticising his lack of charisma.
It was said that he CAN DO IT and beat FED, but that its a hard task.

I hope he looks at all of this support at some point in time after Match ball has been struck.
