WTF 2016 Final: Andy Murray vs Novak Djokovic

Quote

I lost connection here though came back now and still logged on. BBC link didn't work for me, went back to Sky and got sound again after trying couple other links on it. Did hear most of it on Sky, thanks again TD. Was in tears of joy, face bleeding, must have scratched along the way. So magnificent!  Nice to see even Boogers enthralled!  "OMG OMG"  (though he did lose faith along the way.  What a smashing event. Will be looking for a youtube later, though it's never the same.
You might say this has been Andy's year! One to remember!!!  And I might say that I have never lost faith that he would be this good!!  So proud & happy for him.

Djokovic got off easy.  Someone should have crowned him with that chair.

We are all so proud, I know we've had our moments and little disagreements in here, but I am so proud of Andy. What a man he is.

Always knew he had this in him. He was too good not to be year end number 1. And now he has done it, and to top it off, he's beaten Novak.

Andy, so proud to have supported you through the highs and lows, now the world no1. So so proud. (Although admittedly I have sworn at you, thousands of times although you have silenced me in the last 6 months)

Only need you to win the Australian open now and mabye the French and a perfect career is rounded off. Maybe holding all four would be great too

I'm glad that Djokovic got one of the breaks back, in hindsight - it would have been a dreadful anti-climax otherwise, and it would have felt wrong without some traditional 'will he get over the line' terror.

The plain truth is, there's a big gap between them at the moment.  Djokovic upped his intensity in the group stages and the semi, but he was just papering over the cracks that have been there since Paris, and he couldn't hide them against such a confident Murray.

And this was Murray with some genuine miles on the clock in the last few weeks - so if Djokovic can't take a set off him right now, it might be a fair while before he does again.

In fact, it's probably safe to say he won't be doing it at all until he gets back whatever exactly he lost after Paris.

I hope he will.  I don't want two or three years of Murray beating Raonic in every big final.  I want to see him beat a Djokovic who isn't making any mistakes.

He's won Beijing, Shanghai, Vienna, Paris and the WTF in a row. Amazing!
We still all want Andy to win at the end of the day.

You can say that again, didn't say a single non-inflammatory word for at least 6 minutes after that return went wide on championship point! lol

Sorry - My 80 year old Mother beats you in the inflammatory stakes.  I managed not to commit matricide, so you are safe!  Very Happy

Brilliant, simply brilliant win by Andy, in such great style. So happy and proud! Though Andy has an unfavourable HTH record with Djokovic, he has beaten him in the ones that really, really matter imo: Wimbledon, the Olympics and today's WTF.
Long may Andy reign as world number one...........what will 2017 hold?!

You know - whatever works, I guess.  Things ain't working too well for Novak these days.  OK - it's one match - but not often a player makes Jock the Cock look mediocre.  Andy did today.  So maybe Jock needs to re-assess his team.

Andy has played double as many matches as Djokovic, he has had by far the tougher route to the final, he has played the longest match here, he has faced somebody tonight who has won here four times in a row. The odds seemed to be against him. I admit I did not have the highest hopes myself. And yet Andy proved us all wrong. He is a star and it was his day to shine. Long may his reign as No1 last!

What a long, strange trip it's been. Thank you, Andy Murray, for being such a brilliant, interesting, thoughtful, insanity-provoking sportsman! May you go on from strength to strength.
