WTF 2016 Final: Andy Murray vs Novak Djokovic

Quote

Couldn't agree more.     I can remember Andy, quite early on in his career,  correcting an Interview who said something about how much his mother had done for him and Andy simply said "my parents".
He always gives his father his place and so does Jamie.

Yeah, I remember him saying that too.  It's like when Judy used to always get asked "are you Andy Murray's mum?" and she'd say "Andy and Jamie's mum".  Some peeps are just clueless.

I always remember Willie hugging Andy at the airport after his Wimbledon 2012 defeat, there for him when he needed him.

When Jamie and Bruno won one of their matches last week, Jamie blew a kiss to, I assume, his wife, and Willie who was sitting next to her pointed to himself as if to say "who me?"  The bond between the family is there for all to see if people care to pay attention.

Yes, and I believe he underestimated Andy. I think he thought he was going to win or he wouldn't have played up the importance of the match beforehand.
I agree with that Simon.   All that talk about the honour of playing in such an historic match.  Whereas Andy just treated it as another match to be won (having got into the winning habit).  Incidentally I don't for a moment think that Andy played up his tiredness to con Novak.  When he was interviewed afterwards on Sky he said he'd felt really tired when he woke up and, as I think I posted earlier (so apologies). it was Matt Little who emphasised his body could do it even though Andy said he didn't believe him.
Connor:  although I don't like him I think Novak is usually very gracious in defeat.  He was yesterday.  But his subsequent comments did seem to me to be aimed at taking away from what Andy had achieved.  And, according to the BBC, he was also saying Kim should be given equal credit, or something like that.  Now I'm all for recognising the role played by female partners but this seemed to me patronising and perhaps directed more at this own wife than Kim as such.

Thanks TD...It was great to be able to see that again, safe in the knowledge that Andy had prevailed.  Very Happy If Djoko had managed to break Andy again in that last game, it would've been unbearable. I don't know how Andy did it, but I doubt he'd have lasted a third set. I heard Djoko celebrated beating an equally exhausted Kei Nikashori as though he'd just one the final, so the thought of him actually winning it was just too awful to contemplate, so thank God we didn't have to! Phew! Rolling Eyes

I tried to watch this on Sky's website but they've managed to **** up the audio somehow, makes it unwatchable with sound.

I have watched the whole match again and came to the conclusion that Andy was determined to win this match come hell or high water. He  stayed calm and played really well.

Nole on the other hand never really got into the match and did not look at all confident and it was obvious that he had not had enough hard matches before the final. He obviously thought he was going to win the final.

I was very proud of Andy he showed great determination even though he had played very hard matches to reach the final. This was his day and no one was taking it away from him.

Cream rises to the top and Andy was certainly that, we should all be very gratefull to have such a great champion.

Just re-watched the final too. I wonder who's idea it was to target Novak's BH until it breaks down? It was very useful vs Nishikori but whatever, it really worked. I wonder if it was a statement of intent, kind of like saying "i'm not concerned about your best shot", it was amazing seeing Andy go into a BH vs BH battle with Novak, have it right up 'Im!

Thank you Apollo! What a nice thing to say, but it's the love and support from people around the world like yourself  that helped him through the tough years when so many people in his own country were bad mouthing him and doing him down, so you are to be congratulated as well! hug Thankfully, most people in the UK now realise what a national treasure he is....unlike some on here who pretend to be fans.  Rolling Eyes
PS....I doubt we in the UK will ever see his like again.
Thanks to all of you for allowing me to be part of Murraysworld, I love it.

No coach would have given that as a battle plan. That was the great Murray tennis brain in action... Oh he missed a backhand... but that's his source of strength... every time he misses one he'll grow demoralised... let's go for it

Has it been pointed out that in 1989 Becker won 2 Slams, Lendl won 1, yet Lendl finished YE No. 1? Coincidence lol

"Becker: He really didn't know what the next big goal would be."

How about the olympics???

What a pathetic excuse of an article - and an insult to every player he's played since RG.   I thought he was set to split with Becker anyway, although nothing's been confirmed yet, but I do hope it happens.

And as for this statement - "His time was with Nadal, with Federer. Andy was always the fourth guy."  Well that's a b****y insult as well given that Andy has had to play the same two players, not to mention the number of times he and Novak have met!  Novak may have the larger proportion of H2H wins, but even if Andy hasn't beaten him he's usually given him a good run for his money, and also won his first two Slams against him.
