WTF RR Stage - Qualification chances

Quote

Thanks Yamor for these wonderful combinations.  Like Joe said, as long as Andy wins then he will qualify.  I am hoping for Andy to win in 2 and DP to win in 2 as Andy would not want to meet a big hitter like Soderling in the SF !   I feel Andy defensive game is insufficient to defend against such a big hitter who is in the zone like Soderling.

Here's a list of all the possibilities in Group B:

If Soderling beats Davydenko

If Djokovic beats Nadal, Soderling will finish top, Djokovic second.

If Nadal beats Djokovic, Soderling will finish top, Davydenko second.

If Davydenko beats Soderling in 2

Davydenko will finish top, Soderling second.

If Davydenko beats Soderling in 3

If Djokovic beats Nadal, Soderling will finish top, Davydenko second.

If Nadal beats Djokovic, Davydenko will finish top, Soderling second.

Here's a full formal listing of cases in Group B

Key
First letter is the initial of the winner of Soderling vs Davydenko, followed by number of sets, followed by initial of the winner of Djokovic vs Nadal, followed by number of sets.
That is followed by the initials of the players in order of finishing position.

Anyway, they surely have to schedule the Djokovic vs Nadal match for the afternoon, otherwise we'll possibly have the scenario of neither player having anything to play for (if Davydenko wins). If they're on first, Djokovic has what to play for, and whatever the result, Soderling and Davydenko will be fighting at least for top spot (and Davydenko may be fighting for qualification).

Yamor, that is simply awesome. clap

Absolute legend

I'll take Murray to win Verdasco in 2 or 3 sets yes

Who's going through with Soderling in the other group though Think  Obviously not Nadal Think

Freaking awesome Yamor! Great job. So we want Murray and Del Potro to win and Davydenko to win.

Here's a list of all the possibilities (Mark, if you feel this doesn't deserve it's own thread, just move it over):

If Murray beats Verdasco in 3

If Federer beats Del Potro, Federer will finish top, Murray second.

If Del Potro beats Federer in 2, Del Potro will finish top, Murray second.

If Del Potro beats Federer in 3, two out of Federer, Murray and Del Potro will qualify, depending on games won percentage, for which Federer followed by Murray are best placed.
So this is the possibilities now. Think

I make it that the only way Murray will go out is if Del Potro wins in 3 sets but also wins AT LEAST 5 games more than Fed.

So if Fed only manages to win his set on a tie break Del Potro would need at least 6-3 6-3 or 6-4 6-2 or 7-5 6-2 or 7-6 6-1 in his sets to get close - i.e. he'd need 3+ breaks of serve in his winning sets.

Obviously if Fed gets his set by a standard 6-4 or 6-3 then Del Potro needs to really dominate his winning sets and break Fed 4+ times just to stand a chance.

Edit: (Im assuming set difference & games won are the criteria to split them and not head to head)

Yup, as Yamor puts it,

"We want either any sort of Federer win, or a Del Potro win in 2, or a Del Potro win in 3 provided he doesn't win 5 games more then Federer."

Simples.

So basically it is unlikely Del Potro will qualify in place of Murray?
