WTF RR Stage - Qualification chances

Quote

So basically it is unlikely Del Potro will qualify in place of Murray?

If Delpot wins in straight sets or as above in 3 then its him and murray through and fed out. Which is interesting and very harsh on Fed Id say!

I would just love it if Fed lost in 2.

To be totally precise for the case where Del Potro wins in 3:

If he wins 10 games more then Federer, Del Potro would be top, Murray second.

If he wins 8-9 games more then Federer, Del Potro would be top, Federer second.

If he wins 6-7 games more then Federer, Federer would be top, Del Potro second.

If he wins 5 games more then Federer, then if Del Potro wins 17 or more games in total, Federer would be top, Murray second. However, if Del Potro wins less then 17 games in total, he'll replace Murray in second place.

If he wins 4 games or less more then Federer, Federer would be top, Murray second.

Quote from BBC:

...Piers, who is at the O2 Arena, says the ATP have just made a new statement about how Group A will be decided, which is as follows: Any win for Federer will take Murray through but a straight-sets win for Del Potro would put the Scot out, while a three-set win for Del Potro would see it come down to the percentage of games won by Murray, Federer and Del Potro....

I don't know who to believe???

Doesn't make sense, unless they're not following their own rulebook.

From his Twitter,

Much head scratching.. a twist in the tale, apparently a delpo straight sets win puts Murray out, 3 sets and it's down to games won. Simples

The official website agrees with Yamor. Maybe Piers misheard someone.

Another one from Piers,

Some of the finest minds in journalism are currently short circuiting here. Basically, pray for a federer win unless you're delpo mad.

I've seen the rulebook, and with what it says there, I'm definitely right!

There's a real problem when even the ATP can't bloody follow it.

They'll end up agreeing with me, you'll see! lol
if Delpo wins in straights, Fed has a worse sets won percentage then murray! It only goes by head to head if two of the three players are level on sets won percentage.

Look at the ATP website someone quoted earlier - they have it right!

I believe you, Yamor. You're invariably spot on with these things.

The ATP really are clueless, it seems.

Well, to be fair they have it right on their website. They're usually fairly good with the stats. I think the journo's probably got it wrong, or misheard or something.

]If del Potro were to win in straight sets against the Swiss, Murray and del Potro would both go through.
