^ Thanks TD.  I enjoyed that, and the haka at the end.   Shame Cam just couldn't do it at his 'local' tournament but that third set was quite some effort from Gasquet.

AO - R1.  Despite such a quick turnaround from Auckland Cam progressed from the first round for only the second time in five attempts with a 7-6 (7-3) 6-0 6-3 success over teenage French wildcard Luca van Assche.

R2 - Cam defeated World No. 55 Constant Lestienne 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(7-2), 6-3 in a rollercoaster of a match that didn't finish until 1:30 am thanks to earlier rain delays, and in fact the match got moved to an outside court, which meant more rain interruptions along with cold and very windy conditions.  It didn't help either that Lestienne is a rather unorthodox player and also Cam's usually reliable serve was letting him down, particularly as he seemed to have endless problems with the ball toss until he got to the fourth set.

R3 - An out of form Cam lost to world No. 71 Jiri Lehecka who fought back from two sets to one down to win 6-7 (8-10) 6-3 3-6 6-1 6-4.

Last week Cam got to the final in Buenos Aires where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz, and this week he's got to the final in Rio where once again he could face Alcaraz.

Rio final -

1st set Alcaraz 7-5.

2nd set, Cam fought back from 3-0 down after a fall that seemed to knock his confidence (he did complain to the umpire about the court surface), so it's now 5-4 Cam - and Alcaraz has the trainer out for a right thigh injury - but Cam takes the set.

3-3 in the 3rd.  Alcaraz may not be able to move well but he's blasting FH winners all over the place.  Now the drop shots come into play, and an under-arm serve, but now it's 5-5.

Cam gets the break.  6-5

MP and Alcaraz saves it.  Deuce. ace, another ace and Cam wins!  yay yay

Ranking goes back up to No. 12
