Poor first set. Emma was leading 5-0, then failed to serve the match out twice, finally doing it at the third attempt to take the set 6-4.
Toilet break seemed to do her some good. Took the second 6-1 without too much difficulty, while Sramkova looked rather uncomfortable at times.
Thanks to Katie Boulter losing, Emma becomes Britain's No. 1 on Monday.
I almost agree with that interpretation.
Emma is best described as Whimsical, in my opinion. She plays mostly, I think, because she enjoys it and like all sports people a part of that enjoyment is winning.
In that first set she had a period of trying to hit the ball too hard for a quicker result. It rarely works.
Sramkova, in contrast, just played very badly and lost confidence which ended up with total disbelief in her own ability. It made Emma's task far easier.
I did like Emma serving this match. It was too good for her opponent.
Playing the number one seed next should be interesting. All I would say to her is 'do not try too hard'.
